I keep several in a PVC pipe full of cosmoline. Underground.

I actually have some completely dehydrated guns. They're a pretty green color, with pictures of old presidents on them, and they fit right in my pocket. Every so often, I take them to the neighborhood gun shop and get them re-hydrated. But then they are so big I have to keep them in my safe!
