An Open Letter to Sumner Re: CBS by: smartmoney2004 09/14/04 10:02 am Msg: 29255 of 29315

  Dear Sumner,

It is bad enough that CBS news management has had to accommodate Dan Rather by extending his contract far beyond his useful life, time and again. We know that this has generated all kinds of headaches within the CBS and Viacom organizations.

Now, however, Rather's intransigence, in the face of overwhleming evidence that the Killian memos are fake, and exacerbated by CBS news management's spineless unwillingness to repudiate this sorry episode in so-called American "jounalism," is not only putting the final nail in the coffin of CBS as a credible news entity, but it is further eroding the already rapidly declining equity value of this part of the Viacom franchise.

We hereby plead that action is taken immediately to address this situation by overruling the sorry team of senior managers at CBS News and repudiate the Killian memos once and for all. Take heed of the overwhelming chorus of your peers at the New York Times, Washington Post, San Franciso Chronicle, etc., who have publicly called for Rather's immedaite discipline and apology on this matter. Frankly, as you are well aware, Rather should have been put to pasture long ago, but for the internal poilitcs in this crazy organization.

Time for you and rest of the Viaacom Board to get your heads out of the sand. Time to show the CBS News managment team the exit door. Has anybody noticed the rating of CBS News lately?

Sincerely,

Viacom Shareholders

cc Viacom Board of Directors Mel Karmazin Federal Communications Commission

They should be asking who CBS is protecting. It must be someone or something, big, to merit this sort of defense by Mr. Rather.

Freerepublic needs to post at the top of the home page; "click here to boycott CBS" That would make the CBS stock to go down a few more points. Roll downhill like a snowball!!

Thank God someone has the sense to try and stop these biased idiots at See BS. I hope everyone has complained to everyone they can, especially your local SEE BS station.

Even though it's not my thread, I greatly appreciate the time you spent to link that.

Did you notice they used the word intransigence? That's serious.

Wait a minute, wait a minute. I just posted re: Viacom and Time/Warner speculation on the 6Flags Muslim day BEFORE I read this.
Are my speculations in realtime? All I said was "Follow the money".

Um, yes. I just posted to 1 before I read yours regarding this. I agree. I assume that, due to your name, you are not a day-trader, but I would like to know how much value both Viacom and-also- Time Warner, have lost lately.

Good Morning!

I tried to link in the usual fashion. No joy. Where did I go wrong?

I like the linkage idea.

I am in my PJs. It's 1:58 EDT.

I am in my underwear but I'm not trying to unveil a forgery so it's ok.
