Check out this email I just received from the New York State Republican Committee. It states that a post-convention Marist poll shows W pulling within 5 point of Kerry.
Could New York be in play??

PRESIDENT MAKES HUGE GAINS IN NEW YORK State Chairman predicts Kerry-Bush Battle in New York
New York Republican State Committee Chairman Sandy Treadwell today announced that President George W. Bush's huge surge in the polls in New York is the beginning of a great battle against John Kerry in New York.
Two polls released today show that the enormously successful Republican National Convention in New York City has helped the President make tremendous strides in New York State.
"I've long predicted that the President would see a significant bounce after the convention, but these polls have exceeded expectations," Chairman Treadwell said. "New York is now a swing state and I predict we will see a lot more of John Kerry."
The Quinnipiac University Polling Institute poll shows President Bush making tremendous strides in New York, with a 12 point swing in his direction among registered voters since August. President Bush is within five points of John Kerry among likely voters in our state.
The poll conducted by the Marist College Institute for Public Opinion shows a nine point swing in the President's favor since April, bringing the President within eight points of Kerry among registered voters.
"President Bush has done an extraordinary job as our Commander-in-Chief. These polls show that New Yorkers recognize that at the end of the day, it is President Bush who will continue to do what is necessary to protect our nation and fight to preserve our very way of life."
"This significant gain for the President will help fuel our grassroots operation throughout the state as we gear up to help President Bush see an even bigger margin of victory in November. I think there will be a lot of disappointed Kerry fans on November 3."

Whoops. It's the Quinnipiac poll that shows W within 5 points. The Marist poll shows him within 8. Either is still remarkably close for a state where Dems outnumber Republicans by 2 million registered voters.
SWEEEEET!!!
I've seen a 6 point poll and an 8 point poll. What are the numbers of this 5 point one?
Good news.
The Kerry campaign is making the Dukakis and Mondale campaigns look succesful and well run. This should make S. Estrich feel better. Nobody likes to be recorded in history as being the worst.
New math. :)

Id love to see Bush go to California and New York. Is it on the schedule? The turn out would be fantastic!!!!!!!
I'd like to see him in Chicago too, but Illinois is a lost cause...
nick
PS---Im still voting, but it's a lost cause...
If Bush forces Dukakis...opps I mean Kerry to campaign in NY, CA, Mass, NJ, Maine, Illinois then Kerry will implode all over again.
I've sent along the original email received from the state GOP. It contains all the info I have.
This could explain why the swimmer is taking to the campaign trail. I figured the only possible reason would be if the base were getting very very shaky because his presence will also energize Republicans in opposition so this is very much of a calculated risk.
Closing the gap, this is good news.
Probably because some of the NY Dems have moved to Florida in order to skew the vote.
It is a bit different here in solid RED territory.
I cannot wait to vote, even though President Bush will "sodomize" Kerry here in Texas.
Another thread mentions that Laura Bush will be campaigning in NJ. W's campaign must believe it's in play, and this could in turn force the Kerry campaign to devote resources there.
This is good news, but I won't feel comfortable until Massachusetts becomes one of the battleground states.
Algore won NY by 25%!!! A larger margin than Bush won Texas by! And Kerry was up 18% just a short time ago. The chances of Bush winning NY are very slim. But numbers like this, if they hold or even get tighter will force Kerry to pour money, man power, and personal time into NY to win it.
