Johnny Ramone, member of punk legends ’The Ramones,’ dies at 55

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Johnny Ramone, guitarist and co-founder of the seminal punk band “The Ramones,” has died. He was 55.

Ramone died in his sleep Wednesday afternoon at his Los Angeles home surrounded by friends and family, his publicist said. He had battled prostate cancer for five years, and was hospitalized in June at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Ramone, born John Cummings, was one of the original members of the Ramones, whose hit songs “I Wanna be sedated” and “Blitzkrieg Bop,” among others, earned the band induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002.

The band’s singer, Joey Ramone, whose real name was Jeff Hyman, died in 2001 of lymphatic cancer. Bassist Dee Dee Ramone, who was born Douglas Colvin, died from a drug overdose in 2002.

Johnny Ramone founded “The Ramones” in 1974 with Joey Ramone, DeeDee Ramone and Tommy Ramone, the only surviving member of the original band.

If I am not mistaken, throughout the course of their career, at one point, one bandmember left and another took his place, if I am correct, I am not sure. Thought they got a baldheaded drummer.

Singer - Joey
Guitar - Johnny
Drums - Tommy -> Marky -> Richie ->Marky (again)
Bass -Dee Dee ->C.J.

If that's a conservative, this country is lost.

You're an ass.

If you do some research, you'll find that Johnny was not thrilled about the song but being in a 4-piece band, sometimes you don't always get what you want.

Don't let him bug ya. Johnny's in a good place, and he's being thanked by the Good Lord for all his great musical contributions.

Johnny Ramone wasn't the songwriter. And besides, your point has been debunked a couple of times already. You're not going to win the argument so why not drop it?

Amen.

And you know what else I liked about Ramones - they never took themselves seriously. Everything was done with their tongues in their cheeks. Great band, and rightfully in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ... now, if only we could get Alice Cooper in the Hall, too!

They're forming in a straight line
They're going through a tight wind
The kids are losing their minds
The Blitzkrieg Bop.

RIP.

AP story says yes (he was conservative).

"In addition to his financial conservatism, the guitarist was politically conservative — the late Ronald Reagan was Ramone's favorite president, Vega said."

RIP. In that era I was into Led Zep, not the Ramones.

Ah, from that era where you were "Comfortably Numb" with Pink Floyd, and "Dazed And Confused" with Led Zeppelin. LOL ;)

Shock Theater (with Zacherley)

I knew there had to be a reason why he was so cool. Now I know! Farewell, Johnny!

It's awful to see yet another Ramone go, but MTX was dead-on target with that song even 10-15 years ago and that kind of takes away the sting of it. MTX themselves did nothing but go downhill when Jon left the band and they lost that gritty, grinding rhythm guitar that totally made them great.

The eerie thing is that after a few years, I finally bought a new turntable about a week ago, retrieved all my vinyl from the garage, and "Big Black Bugs" was one of the first records I put on.

Those lists are so close to my personal likes, it's scary. Baseball, rock, politics, and classic horror movies!!! A great guy.
