At the time of posting, Jeanne is crossing the Dominican Republic on a track toward the Bahamas and Karl is at about latitude 10N longitude 35W, well east of th Lesser Antilles

country threatened by TWO cat. 5 hurricanes - Ivan, Javier (unprecedented) There are more unprecedent things visible right now :
- the first time that a new born hurricane (hours old) manages to survive the highest mountains in the Caribbean (Dominican Republic)
- the depression that took the shortest time ever to turn into a hurricane (Karl, eastern Atlantic)

Well, it looks like the terrain of the Dominican Republic did its job. Jeanne is now a tropical depression! It's forecast to only go back to tropical storm strength in the next 2-3 days.
