POTENTIALLY HUGE: Possible Saddam-Al Qaeda Link Seen in U.N. Oil-for-Food Program
FOX News ^ | Sept. 17, 2004 | Claudia Rosett and George Russell

Posted on 09/17/2004 2:59:43 AM PDT by West Coast Conservative

Did Saddam Hussein use any of his ill-gotten billions filched from the United Nations oil-for-food program to help fund Al Qaeda?

Investigations have shown that the former Iraqi dictator grafted and smuggled more than $10 billion from the program that for seven years prior to Saddam’s overthrow was meant to bring humanitarian aid to ordinary Iraqis. And the Sept. 11 Commission has shown a tracery of contacts between Saddam and Al Qaeda that continued after billions of oil-for-food dollars began pouring into Saddam’s coffers and Usama bin Laden declared his famous war on the U.S.

Now, buried in some of the United Nation’s own confidential documents, clues can be seen that underscore the possibility of just such a Saddam-Al Qaeda link — clues leading to a locked door in this Swiss lakeside resort.

A couple of Koffee Ananon's relatives, some Russkies, French and German Diplomats and dozens of big shots in global corporations had their hands in Saddam's cookie jar. Bribes and payoffs are the way things are done in the Middle East.

Note: The U.S. has never published the names of people who profited by selling airline stock short during early September. How many Saudis and other people connected to al Qaeda profited with BILLIONS? Nobody knows because the White House has kept that information Top Secret.

The U.S. needs to push hard to blow this illegal Iraqi-UN kickback scheme sky high. Frankly, I believe the top dawgs know what is going on but they will bury this scandal under the rug. How would you feel if you learned that your fat cat lawyer buddy made millions from Iraqi oil kickbacks, and millions from airline stock after 9-11, and just happens to represent heavy hitter clients in N.Y. and D.C.? Oh, and some of his clients are big shots in both parties, a couple of Saudi princes, and some sit on the boards of Fortune 100 corporations? Oh, and some of his firm's clients are Senators and Congressmen from both parties . . .

This scandal will just be swept under the rug. It's time to move on now, nothing to see here, lock your doors and windows folks.

With the mess that is the UN and the corrupt dealing in international terror financing, the connections will be clear. We first have to clear off the whitewash and we'll have plenty of evidence. Sadly, the American memory is short and interest is lacking. History will show the cause to be justified, necessary and successful!

Claudia Rosett is a consultant to FOX News and Journalist-in-Residence at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies.

Claudia Rosett has been digging into this story for a while, but I hadn't known that she has any official connection to Fox News. Good for them!

No doubt. Plenty of democrats have fat wallets, they won't bring it up. 8 years of Clinton and oil scam, that's got to be quite a long list, as well as most of Europe.

that's the real reason they didn't want Bush going in there. They didn't want the taps closed. It wasn't about oil for Bush, but it sure was for Europe.

I've been saying that for YEARS. But nooooo! Even Bush has turned around and given the UN credence again. What the hell is up with that?

Why we even bother with the UN is beyond me . I've always contended that we knock down that useless building here in NYC and make a nice park at the site.

Loooong article, but good. Let's hope this is true!

Let's not.
I'm not a Democrat... I don't pray for the worst. There's nothing I would like more than the WMDs and Al Qaeda links and funding to not be true.

Hopefully that will happen, but not if kerry gets in. It would be a disaster if kerry got in and propped up the UN.

The UN would crumble right now if Bush demaned that they follow their own charter.
We have Sudan committing genocide, Syria crossing the border for visits and testing chemical weapons , yet Sudan is a member in good standing and appointed to the human rights commision. All these Islamic countries should not be in the UN at all, yet the place is stacked with them.

it's insane.

Betchtel?

"Agreeing with that assessment is Bechtel, which signed up the Al-Bunnia Trading Company as its first Iraqi subcontractor to work on the reconstruction of Iraq's Al Mat bridge. "Al Bunnia was vetted through the [US-led Coalition Provisional Authority]," Bechtel spokesman Howard Menaker said in an e-mail. "During the background investigation, there was nothing found that indicated we could not work with Al Bunnia. Further, there were additional informal discussions with other individuals and advisors to us but again nothing indicated wrong doing nor that we would be precluded from doing business with Bunnia." Another firm with close ties to the White House that's angling to help clients win Iraq contracts, GOP lobbyist Haley Barbour's New Bridge Strategies, proudly announces on its website that its local partner in a consortium bidding on a contract is "led by the Al-bunnia family who are a leading commercial group in Iraq with over 80 years experience in Iraq." "

Even if there may be copious evidence linking this unholy alliance; photographs, testimonys, finger prints or whatever..... They will deny and ask what your definition of "is" is. There are some people who are thick skinned and narrow minded in their Machiavellian pursuits. The facts only get in their way. Let this knowledge resolve our efforts to shine that light of truth ever brighter.

I am sure that Rather and the crack CBS news team are all over this story....

LOL! Yeh, like the documents forgery story, he want to be "the first to break the story".

I am so glad to see the sleazoid go out this way. He certainly deserves it!

If this is true, then the U.N. is a member of the Axis of Evil. The United States should then invoke the Bush Doctrine and forever banish this virulent pond scum from American soil.

I understand CBS News is gonna get right on this, although Dan Rather is questioning the validity of the documentation that's been found. Dan: "They're relying on documents that are obviously forged. Nobody has used handwriting like that since 1955."
