Benefits of Supporting the Winner While He Can Still Use Your Help

Wouldn't it be great to know which horse to put your money on, which team to pick in the Super Bowl, or which stock is going into the stratosphere? There could definitely be some solid returns if we just knew in advance how some events would work out.

Even in sports we don’t generally take these decisions lightly. We research, analyze, and ponder. Then based on our very best summary, we make our choice. We put our money down....and we wait.

Therefore, let's look at the facts of the presidential race.

1. Incumbents have an advantage. The president's compassionate delivery of assistance to hurricane-stricken areas is just one example. Also, the President has a proven track record in Texas; he buried his opposition at his reelection. (And his master strategist, Karl Rove, is still calling the inside shots.)

2. President Bush is now clearly leading in the polls -- in some by big, big margins. (By as high as 14 points.) You might not put much stock in polls, but considering point #1 above, doesn’t that send a message? 3. The president's campaign is organized, effective, and disciplined. The campaign is hitting on all cylinders. That Republican Convention was among the best planned and executed in history.

4. Meanwhile at KampKerry there is chaos. Leaders have been fired. Big Name democrats are criticizing the campaign. Kerry has a new position daily on nearly every issue. (Would you honestly want someone with these organizational and decision-making skills in charge of the entire country?)

5. Lady Luck also seems to be smiling at President Bush. The blogger crew that came to the President’s rescue mere hours after Dan Rather's forged documents escapade came to light is just one example. (Dan looks like an idiot. President Bush looks golden.) Women are even saying they like the president's handsome, young, aviator's looks are far more appealing than the long, butlerish, Adams Family-esque face of Kerry. How lucky can one candidate get?

Let’s cut to the chase. After considering all of the above, make your best forecast at this moment in time. Who do you actually think is going to win this presidential election?

Think. Wouldn't it make sense to support him while he could still use your help?

Do you want to be on the side of the winner or that of the loser? (And this loser could be a BIGTIME loser. He wasn't well-connected before....how can he be of any imaginable assistance afterwards?)

What's your business...finance, techs, what? Where would you rather put your money… happily with the winner or amidst great angst with the loser?

What's your club, status, race, religion, fraternal organization, union, sport, gender, occupation? At this point in time, what is your honest, down-deep forecast about this election?

Is it smarter to back a winner when he can still use your help? Or is it better to side with a loser who looks like he's going down?

Here’s one more attempt at perspective. Sometime this fall Notre Dame's football team is going to play Navy one more time in a series that goes back for decades. Who do you PREDICT will win?
