A square meal for Texas Krystal ... plans to expand here

The Krystal Co. will soon begin selling its square burgers 'round here.

Betting that its small hamburgers will be a hit throughout Texas – as they are across the South – the company is expanding its restaurants in the Lone Star State beginning in November.

A restaurant set to open in mid-November in Carrollton is the first of five on tap for North Texas from Dallas-based Little Foods Franchise Group LLC. Restaurants also are slated to open in Houston in November and in Austin early next year. Eighteen Krystals are scheduled to open in Texas by 2009.

Krystals coming to Texas! I would have put this in breaking news, but I was afraid the AdminMod had never eaten one.

Some of the best news I've heard all year. Ten cheese Krystals, please! I considered starting one in Houston myself, but I'm glad someone beat my lazy butt to it.

Woo-Hoo! I used to live in Nashville and remember the first ones I had as a kid.

I've told my wife and kids about 'em for years.

Reckon if they'll ever put one down here in Corpus Christi???

I don't think I've had a Krystal hamburger for 25 years now. I bet they don't cost 21 cents anymore.

I live in Tenn. Krystls are highly overrated. Wish that we would get Jack-in-the-Box or In and Out Burgers like we had when we lived in Calif.

Now that is really expanding on the Texas landscape.... Eighteen in four years..... Guess they didn't want to saturate the market......

Jack in the Box is in Nashville and there's one around the Cool Springs Mall (Brentwood/Franklin area).

You must be really young. I remember when they went from a dime to 15 cents.

I was raised up in Nashville eating Krystals. A bag of Krystals, a coke and a sack of comics on a Friday night. Heaven!

Now that's what I'm talkin' about!

It'd be great to do a Blockbuster/Krystals Friday night with my kids. My son'd eat 'em like popcorn and then just lay on the floor with a dreamy, almost unconscious look on his face.

I know there are Krystals in Beaumont.

I excerpted out the part about company stores there. But let's face it - Beaumont is largely populated by ex-Louisianans who were raised on Cajun cooking and know what good food is. The rest of Texas is populated by folks who think barbecue is cow.
