"I'm worried about Americans" Al-Jazeerah
Al-Jazeerah ^ | September 19, 2004 | Bill Henderson

In Canada, if the Prime Minister took over a record $230 billion surplus and four years later had turned it into a $300 billion plus deficit there would be no fn way that he'd be elected to another term. He'd be toast.

Bush will be the first president since Herbert Hoover to have a net loss of jobs during his tenure. If this was an election in any western democracy but the States they'd throw the bums out just for this singularly inept economic performance. No question.

But Bush faced no challenge for the Republican nomination and is not just still competitive in the race for president - he's presently ahead and looks like winning a second term What's happening?

Not to mention lying. Has there ever been a more dishonest US administration?

In his 2000 election platform Bush presented himself as a compassionate conservative. What sort of caring conservative ramps up government spending while giving the already rich a huge tax break penalizing future generations of average Americans and their children?

He said he wasn't about to involve the US in nation building and promised an equally conservative foreign policy. It was a monstrous lie. We now know that from the very first day of his presidency his administration was planning to invade Iraq.

'Clear Skies" and the "Healthy Forests Initiative' - who's kidding who? Americans aren't dumb. They can type Bush - lies into Google. It isn't a lack of evidence or information.

Of course we are talking about politicians, but Canadians wouldn't accept this behavior from their government. I can't imagine a European democracy re-electing a government with a record like Bush's. What is it about the American political situation that allows Bush to be still in the race?

What has the Bush Administration done that stands out as positive, long lasting legislation? Can't think of one policy or new law. Where are the new trade deals or reform of Medicare or Social Security or other innovative administration policies? What has his administration actually done to win voters this election?

Why do people who are reasonable, informed and should know better support Bush? Why will half the nation vote for him in November? Don't they know the damage he has done to America and to them and their children?

Americans are the premier world citizens. Globalization speaks American English. Americans are the majority of travelers you see in airports, in business districts, beaches and cruises. Americans have business interests in virtually every country in the world; they have investments, branch plants, outsourcing suppliers, franchises. They make and sell movies, TV, music and sport globally.

A peaceful, cooperative, benign, law abiding and orderly world is a necessity for Americans to prosper and be Americans.

Which president stubbornly went out of his way to disturb a hornet's nest by cynically invading Iraq, creating waves of potential terrorists from London to Jakarta?

Americans know from reading their newspapers that Bush has turned global public opinion solidly against the US. There have always been America haters, but beheadings on the net are a growth industry. Already many streets, parks and playgrounds through out the world are no longer safe for Americans. Elect Bush to a second term with his sneer and crusade language, his military bombast and his for or agin' us, and terrorists will proliferate and Americans will be rightfully scared to go anywhere, even in the States.

Which Administration has undertaken a radical unilateralism, not only flaunting the UN Charter and the rule of law by invading Iraq, but rejecting Kyoto, the new World Court and disarmament conventions, and aggravating relations with US trade partners by protectionist tactics, ignoring the resulting WTO rulings, etc.? Is this ultimately good for Americans and American business?

Which Administration has seriously corroded the emerging multilateral basis for our interdependent and networked global society by claiming to be above international law and always so arrogantly insisting upon America First? 'The American way of life is not negotiable.'

It's not the lefties or the underprivileged that should be dismayed by Bush - it's the world citizens, the business elite, the people with time and money invested in global organizations. It's the predominately white and wealthy Americans epitomized by those at the Republican convention. They should know what a disaster George W. Bush has been to their world and the potential further damage to be expected in a second term. Why would they vote for him again?

And the successful Christian middle class who poll as Bush's main constituency? You'd think that they above all would understand the importance of not giving in to temptation and breaking the law. Don't they know about the real temptations of Iraq, about the war planning; WMDs and al-Qaeda were just the excuse for waging war on another country for pure self-interest. Iraq was just plain criminal. You'd think that they would understand what it does to the neighborhood when the cop breaks the law. It "could set precedents for the proliferation of the unilateral and lawless use of force" in Kofi Annan's recent words.

Why would any American in his right mind vote for Bush? How is it possible for him to get reelected for a second term? I'm worried about Americans.

Who the Hell is Bill Anderson, and why is he writing to the POS news-source. Why is this written from Canada point-of-view?

Foreign media and political socialists believe they can influece the opinions of american voters.

It appears that Spain has given Much confidence to the enemy. These are equally the enemy of amercia. (this name may also be a pseudonym)

Kerry with his blame american message has given comfort to the enemy. The islamists want kerry to win because kerry is weak.

The guy sounds like any given American Democrat if you ask me. My response would be similar to what Cheney told Leahy.

When the bubble popped (with the Fed's raising of interest rates) five month's prior to Bush's election, I KNEW he was going to be blamed for the resulting recession.

Nine months into his term, when the terrorists attacked and the economy slowed down further, I KNEW he was going to be blamed.

This recover, in spite of those two major events, has been remarkable. I just wish there was some way to have visibility into two realities: one with Bush at the helm, and one with a democrat (doesn't even have to be Al Gore), and compare where we're at now.

I always find it funny when Canadians--who get red in the face over American patriotism--get all "Us Canadians wouldn't stand for that" belligerent. It's like watching a three-year-old dressed in fatigues for Halloween.

Someone give Canada its cookie and send it back to bed. The adults have work to do--the work the UN (so beloved by Canadians) won't.

Doesn't this idiot know that America is at war? We are fighting WWIV and, as proud Americans, those of us who are patriots (or still were taught basic US history) willingly SACRIFICE with our "Lives, Fortunes and Sacred Honor." Our will is not so palsied, as is that of the Socialist/Communist countries, that we will go down without a fight. We support a President and Commander-in-Chief who upholds the Constituion and American sovereignty. We are Americans - you Idiot!

Uh, Bill...YOU may want to live under UN rules and regs (which just happen to be crap!), but I don't. That's why I'm voting for Bush again.

Why don't you and "aljazeerah" just run your own show and leave us alone?

Bill Henderson?

Who cares what this loudmouthed, lowlife POS thinks? I don't buy anything from Canada, anyway. I cancelled all my wholesale nursery stock contracts 1 1/2 years ago, after they snubbed us in the Iraq War.

W&Co will win big in Nov, Kerry will slither back under his slimy liberal-demokkkRAT rock, and Canada will slowly become "Canadarabia", to our north.

Why is this written from Canada point-of-view?

Canada is a way-station for Islamic terrorists from the Middle East.
At least places like some of the major universities of Quebec have
plenty of Palestinians/Pali-sympathizers and the area Jewish population
probably lives under the same cloud as Jews in that enlightened
Old Europe enclave, France.

And I say that with all love for the decent Canadians in other parts of the country,
especially my relatives in Alberta.
