I guess you're right.
If the media did this kind of s*** with a business story (for example, slyly alerting a friend of upcoming news that might drive a stock price up or down) I think the reporter would be fired and prosecuted.
But since it's only the future of the country at stake, the stakes are a lot lower!

I agree. Lockhart would not have been smoked out yet by a fear of Burkett phone records being released. He admitted it before he had ever really been tagged for the call. There's something else going on, someone else had the goods on him and made him 'fess up.

FR questions validity (another card is played)
CBS 'bluffs' by standing behind story
Bush raises by saying further explanation needed
CBS 'calls' by backing off story
Bush 'raises' again by asking for explanation of Dem involvement
Uh Oh, it looks like CBS got caught hiding a card up its sleeve, plus there's another player in the game with whom they're colluding?

They may all lead to the DNC, but there may be infighting in the palace. This story is fishy. First it is by AP who have made a career of not investigating Democrats. This story was a plant. Lockhart statement of I do not recall was unnecessary. The Clinotonians want to make sure that Kerry follows a bad August with a bad September. Lockhart only shot to get back on the government payroll is Hillary 2008.

Yes. This looks like panic; people are starting to be jettisoned. This may all end up historic -- it is starting to develop some of the characteristics.
Collusion between powerful groups such as the DNC/DLC and CBS; forged documents; citizens investigating -- history tends to repeat itself, and this in some ways reminds me of the Dreyfus Affair.
Inside the DNC the long knives are out. The next few days may be a lot more about 2008 than 2004.
Don't forget that the Boston Globe and USA Today also came up with the documents independently.
There is no way a producer at CBS like Mapes would call up her competition and give the "scoop" away.
So who called them on or around the same time frame about these documents? Who else had access according to Burkette's posting in Aug on the internet?

This is grounds for the White House to pull the press credentials of anyone working for CBS News. These people aren't reporters, they are literally Democratic Party operatives.
Am I missing something here? Didn't the Dems use the forgeries in political ads that started running within a day or days of the 60 Minutes broadcast? In fact, aren't they still running them?
It does take a little time to edit a political spot and get it distributed out to all the stations for broadcast. I wonder what the normal turnaround time is for this and what was actually achieved by the Dems. There could be a smoking gun here if anyone has some hard data.
There have been rumors that the Kerry/kennedy group (cahill et al) have been upset with first the addition of the Gorons (shrumm et all) and now the Clintonista's (Lockjaw, carvile, forehead), and that the Gorons hate the clintonistas.
I think you are right .... either Shrumm or one of the Kennedy clique saw the opportunity to toss some of the newly brought on Clinton gang under the bus.
Either that or Lockjaw admission is just Round One in the Clinton plan to ensure torpedoing of Kerry.
I used to work for the AP. They're not doing the investigating. They just know they have to get it on the wire so they can play on it before the other guys. Strictly business. That doesn't mean they're enjoying it.
