Did you mean that Burkett reportedly got the documents in March? You wrote June.

All is forgiven, just as soon as they fire Rather and go out of business.

Rather thinks he is fooling enough of the people. Only Ferris Bueller could have pulled that off.

I was not impressed by his "apology". I'm not alone in saying that all decision makers at CBS, including Mary Mapes and Dan Rather need to apologize to ALL, including President Bush. Bill Burkett and Mrs. Knox hate Bush and should be ashamed for using the media in an attempt damage Bush right before an election.

How does that saying go?? - "what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive".

Hopefully the truth comes home to roost on Rather, CBS and the true source of these documents before November.

Until he apologizes to President Bush, nothing he says is worth listening to

Or until Barbara Bush is given 5 minutes alone in a room with him.

There was an article in the Boston Globe http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2004/02/13/doubts_raised_on_bush_accuser/

February 13, 2004 profiling Bill Burkett. The article noted that Burkett had been touting the story of President Bush's national guard service during the previous week.

Couldn't find where I wrote June, but I definitely meant March. I quoted the article here....sorry for the mixup, however it happened.

Wow...and even after all of that, they still use Burkett as a credible source???

Like I have been saying all evening, this gets interestinger and interestinger.

LOL, Will it be on Pay per View?

It would be far too gruesome for broadcast.

I was thinking more along the lines of a .45 with one bullet.

documents came through a convoluted process that started with a phone call from a stranger and ended with the handoff of an envelope at the Houston Livestock Show, that city's version of Mardi Gras.

Translation: "I typed them myself"

Secondly, it seems elsewhere he said he lied to protect his source. Why would he protect a source he doesn't know.

Thirdly, he insists the documents are authentic. How does he know they are authentic if someone handed them to him at the fair??

This guy needs to tell all of this to a grand jury.

Clearly I have been posting too long...I meant March...sorry!

So, to recap:

1) Documents have a creation date in February or at least surface about that time.

2) McAuliffe has a heydey with Bush's purported AWOL status at about the same time.

3) After being shown to be a freak in the Boston Globe in February, Burkett gets these documents in March. Apparently, he sits on them. Van Os, his attorney, is running for Texas Supreme Court, and Burkett has something to do with that campaign.

4) Max Cleland visits Crawford (near Abilene Kinkos and near home of Burkett's ranch) on the 25th of August to protest Swift Boat Vets.

5) For some reason, Burkett FAXes these documents to CBS on September 2nd....and apparently USA Today has had access as well.

6) CBS has some sort of contact with Lockhart prior to the Dan's breaking of the story.

7) Current debacle as we know it.

Wow. Am I missing anything in this lovely timeline?

ping...

Juxtapose what you have written alongside the reported receipt of these documents at the livestock auction and their possible creation back in February. I think you will find it even more damning.

Yeah.

Not only did McAuliffe bring up the purported AWOL business, but (again according to a LGF posting at number 222 in the same thread) on February 9 Max Cleland called on the White House to release President Bush's pay stubbs from the national guard. The White House did, the next day.

I'm SURE you were suggesting suicide -- not murder..
Right?

But you see, suicide in a situation like this requires at least two characteristics that Rather LACKS: A conscience, and courage...

Rather is a pathological liar, and a coward ---- so suicide is out..

Regarding suicide, it's Burkett I'm worried about, not Rather.

Burkett, apparently, has had two nervous breakdowns requiring hospitalization; he didn't want his name involved; he made up the name of a contact (allegedly) because he was pushed by CBS; and now he is accused before the world.

I hope for his sake that he's being watched.

OMG! Clearly the WH had nothing to hide.

And according to the story on www.CBSNEWS.COM, CBS went after the documents from Burkett, not the around.other way Who from CBS knew that the documents even existed? And how would they know to go to Burkett???

This thing is full of holes, and Cleland and McAuliffe are desperate to make Bush look like a draft dodger. The funny thing is...Clinton was almost lauded by the same people for doing the same thing by running like a coward. Unreal.

This is giant, man, and it isn't going away.
