Rather Still Insists Forged Documents Are Real!!! (Has he gone psychotic?)
Chicago Tribune ^ | Jeff Zeleny / John Cook

Posted on 09/21/2004 9:59:35 AM PDT by MindBender26

In an interview Monday evening, a repentant Rather conceded it had been a mistake to broadcast the documents. But even though he could not vouch for their authenticity, he said he still did not believe that they were fakes.

"Do I think they're forged? No," Rather said.

"But it's not good enough to use the documents on the air if we can't vouch for them, and we can't vouch for them."

What kind of reporter would I be if I put something on the air in which I believed, and as soon as it's attacked and under pressure, you run, you fold, you fade, you side-wind? That's not the kind of person I am, and it's not the kind of reporter I am."

I also find it hard to comprehend how CBS has not issued an internal gag order on Rather. How they still let him give interviews while in their employ is just incompetent management at CBS. If he violates the order, he's fired. He's not fired for bad lournalism, he's fired for insubordination and that saves everyone. How stupid can people running CBS be?

"Where does Robin Rather fit into all of this?"

Oh, you mean Robin Ramirez?

Time for Rathers pink slip I'm not an ageist but 72 year old Dan Rather needs to pass the baton.

He missed his last chance in his career to pay back the Bushes, and he just won't accept that. The thought of the VRWC taking HIM down is just not acceptable. It does not compute.

Remember the scene from Usual Suspects where Virgil Kent tells the Fed that gangsters scare their children by telling them Kysay Soje stories?

I keep my cat out of the spare bedroom by posting a picture of Robin Rather on the door.

Every time I think of Dan Rather now, that little five note organ melody from "Close Encounters" runs through my head.

Ohh, memories of using that! I cracked up a meeting, years ago, when someone asked me, of my whacky PhD boss, "HOW do you communicate with him??!"

"....It's a lovely evening on the Dark Side of the Moon.."

"Now-Up a perfect fifth"

"Play the Five Tones.."

I'm certain there are more like Robin, I just can't authenticate them. I've seen them under my bed and in the mall, lurking those dark maintenance alleys.

"They have mass. How can they be fakes?"

Well strictly speaking the documents are real as opposed to being imaginary. ;O>

If he keeps clinging to this loony idea he will be gone in a week. He does not seem to realize that anyone with the technology expertise of a 15 year old knows these are phony documents. His unimpeachable source has turned out to be a hate-filled, rabid democratic partisan that even Chris Matthews says is unhinged. Jeepers Creepers! You know, I hope he keeps this up. It is sucking the "air" out of all of Kerry's attempts to distance himself from this debacle. Yep, let's just keep talking about the forged documents scandal.

Thorazine suppositories? What a contradiction......

I personally have been waiting for the thorazine patch. As part of my "Kerry got elected rapid response kit", I've laced my wife's birth control patches with thorazine granules and glue until the FDA version is approved. I figure if those don't keep me down I've instructed my wife to inject me with a curari laced blowdart kept in her purse.

Yep, he's nutty. It's good he's the liberal media's poster boy as he puts the looney Left face of the media on TV every night.

Well, I've wondered this... Dan is 72. It's very likely that he's not familiar with computers too much and wouldn't realize how much this document has the characteristic look of a Microsoft Word document. It seems glaring to me, but I use Word almost every day.

However, that said, Dan is 72. Being about 40 at the time, he would be very familiar with the characteristic look of a page written by a manual typewriter in the early 70s.

How he can say he didn't, er, make that doesn't, have any suspicions about these memos, is beyond plausibility in my opinion.

Dan has to ask if this is the hill he wants to die on. I think that he has made his decisison that it is.

As such this is a battle of wills. I am sure that in Dan's mind he feels that he is being attacked for political motives and that he as an independent journalist needs to prove to the world that "political partisan" attacks cannot silence the truth and the press.

He is either fighting for a free press in his mind, or he is incredibly corrupt and believe that with Kerry likely to go down in defeat that any and all corrupt practices he can put forward are woth the effort to keep Bush from being re-elected. In either case he has choosen the wrong hill. He just doesn't know it yet or have accepted it yet. He will likely die a bitter old man, robbed of any respect.
