Lincoln Chaffee Explains Why He Might not Vote for W (Iraqis Had Better Services under Saddam!)
CNN - Inside Politics

Posted on 09/21/2004 12:39:25 PM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Yesterday, it was reported that Rhode Island RINO Sen. Lincoln Chaffee had announced he might not vote for Pres Bush. Unsurprisingly, there he was as Judy Woodruff's guest on Inside Politics this afternoon.

He spoke of his disagreements with W over "the environment, Iraq, and women's reproductive freedoms." Just as an aside, don't you just love the preciousness of his use of the plural form, "freedoms"?

As to Iraq, he said "we want to make decisions on good, honest information. Where are we in Iraq?" Even Judy was surprised. "Aren't you able to determine the status, frankly, by reading the news?"

Chaffee: "We got a CIA report that was very gloomy. The situation is deteriorating. Let's be honest about it."

Then he got to the highlight of his statement: "The administration says we're buidling a democracy. The big question is whether the Iraqi people turned against us. Have we moved from liberators to occupiers? The Iraqi people don't even have the services they had under Saddam Hussein."

Chaffee whimpered on: "Now that we haven't found WMDs, teh justification is that we have some kind of grand plan for the Middle East. Does that mean we have to engage in Iran, Syria?"

When Judy tried to nail Chaffee down about his voting intentions, Lincoln was as coy as a blushing 13-year old girl. "I'm a good RI Republican." He refused to flatly exclude the possibility he would vote for Kerry, but suggested he might write in someone, even mentioning Bush, Sr. by name.

The Iraqi people don't even have the services they had under Saddam Hussein.

I supposed he also complained about the destruction of Nazi Germany because, gosh darn it, the trains don't run on time anymore!

Idiot RINOs. Who keeps re-electing these wastes of food & oxygen anyway?

We need to look at this as good news!

Frist is speaking confidently about picking up 3-4 seats. He is stating if this occurs we can finally implement policies we came to WAshington to do. (Like scrapping the tax code)

Prez is leading, kerry is spiraling down.

If McCain, Chaffee and the lot are out there behaving like that it tells ME they think their power structure is about to collapse.

Another child of privilege expecting immediate gratification.

Sissy boy in Rhode Island will take his ball and go home rather than let the first string win the game!

McVain goes first. Won't be hard to get a republican replacement for him. Rhode Island is a tough nut to crack. The state is full of ex Navy folks, and because of the media (just like in MA) a repub can't even get air time.
So for now we let Chaffee slide. Get rid of RINOs the we can get a real republican elected, but leave all the other RINOs alone.

AFAIK, he is factually incorrect regarding Iraqis and the availability of basic utilities, education, and other services.

I broke out laughing out loud when he said that.

I wonder if he's talking about the hospitals and schools(aka weapons depots), or the part time electricity Saddam sent out to his friends, while depriving 80% of his countrymen and women the basic needs for life.

Lincoln Chaffee, we don' give a s**t who you vote for, but I guess CNN thought it was important, LOL.

why do I fell a suspicion that a "good RI Republican" is what a conservative would consider "a catamite for the DNC"

Yeah. That running water and electricity stuff is over-rated. Bring back the televised executions (for the elite who had TV's). /sarcasm

Chaffee: "We got a CIA report that was very gloomy. The situation is deteriorating. Let's be honest about it."

That was a report presented last July. Which means it's based on the status last Spring, during the April uprising in Fallujah. Things have changed a lot since then. Check out the email from a Marine major on www.hughhewitt.com for some non-filtered on the ground info.

Chafee is a disappointment, of course, but consider: He's from Rhode Island, one of the bluest of the blue states; it went for Gore over Bush in 2000 by nearly a 2 to 1 margin (61% to 32%). So really, given a 51-49 Senate, we're better off with this silly old patrician windbag RINO than a Democrat. And his eventual replacement WILL be a Democrat.

Don't forget Chuck Hagel. These stalwart RINOs and others like them are the major reason I became a Libertarian. (Now, before you all start tuning up, don't worry--I'm voting for Bush.)
