Democratic presidential candidate Sen. John Kerry offered an instant rebuttal to President Bush's speech before the United Nations yesterday, saying Mr. Bush is ignoring the difficult reality in Iraq and "does not have the credibility to lead the world."
Mr. Kerry, who fielded questions from reporters for the first time since early August, stepped up his attacks on Mr. Bush's Iraq policy and took pains to explain that his position on the war has been consistent.
"The president failed to level with the world's leaders," Mr. Kerry said. "Moments after Kofi Annan, the [U.N.] secretary-general, talked about the difficulties in Iraq, the president of the United States stood before a stony-faced body and barely talked about the realities at all.
"After lecturing them instead of leading them to understand how we are all together with a stake in the outcome of Iraq, I believe the president missed an opportunity of enormous importance for our nation and for the world," he said.
"He does not have the credibility to lead the world, and he did not and will not offer the leadership in order to do what we need to do to protect our troops, to be successful and win the war on terror in an effective way," Mr. Kerry said.
In the 15-minute press conference, Mr. Kerry was not questioned about contacts between his spokesman, Joe Lockhart, and retired Lt. Col. Bill Burkett, a virulent Bush critic who provided documents to CBS News that were said to have shown that Mr. Bush shirked his duties with the Texas Air National Guard during the Vietnam War.

Hi, John! I have insomnia, probably because I saw this disgraceful performance yesterday. Coming so soon after President Bush's magnificent speech, the contrast could not have been greater.
Kerry is not only a terrible candidate. He is a terrible man. And he is far worse than Clinton.

Note particularly Kerry's quote put up on the screen when interviewed by Russert during the primary..I want to hang it around Kerry's neck.
Kerry is into his old anti war Vietnam files....and hoping to undermine the President, the country's resolve, and the trust of Iraqis that we will stay to see this through.

"After lecturing them instead of leading them to understand how we are all together with a stake in the outcome of Iraq, I believe the president missed an opportunity of enormous importance for our nation and for the world," he said. Thi strikes me as the most laughable line in Kerry's entire pathetic performance. Bush lectures??? Bush sounds less like a lecturer than anyone I can name off-hand in public life. Kerry, on the other hand -- and it's really unnecessary to point this out here -- sounds like a caricature of the most pompous lecturer in the real world!

I agree with John above. Clinton Pissed me off and pissed on values.
Kerry is evil with only him in mind and could give a sh*t if the country goes down in flames as long as he can say he is President.
Kerry will ruin this Great country if elected. But luckily that will not happen.
That is why all you stateside people need to do your best. I can only contribute money and defend Bush to these socialists over here. Which by the way is getting old. They have no idea what they are talking about here and I have to clue them in, every day and night. I wish I could be doing this in the States where it would really matter. Here no one is going to get to vote in the U.S. election,THANK GOD!

President Bush asked the United Nations for help and before he could harldly leave the podium, Lurch was telling the world not to listen to him.
How can anyone even CONSIDER voting for the treasonous person?

Our very lives and the existence of this nation are on the line this election, for Kerry would endanger us all w/his cowardice and lack of leadership.
(I'm going to need a nap this afternoon after getting up so early.)

Lurch's defeatist rhetoric is helping to move voters to Bush.

Anyone with the least alloy of anything but tin in his ear, would have dealt with that speech by pocketing shared aspirations and a shared belief in the eventually usefulness of the UN. And tried to look statesmanlike by adding something to it. Kerry is so stupid he thinks the right reaction to soaring calls to freedom is partisan mudslinging. He can't understand a thing about human motivation or the American character.
