September 23, 2004 -- Ratings for Dan Rather's "CBS Evening News" have plummeted drastically in New York since the Bush-documents scandal broke wide open this week. The perennially third-place 6:30 p.m. newscast averaged 135,000 viewers on WCBS/Channel 2 Monday the day Rather issued an on-air apology for the mess. That's down 49 percent from the 266,000 viewers who tuned in to Rather's newscast the previous Monday, Sept. 13, according to Nielsen.

According to sources, Mapes told "60 Minutes" bosses that the questionable memos at the heart of the controversy were authenticated by four document experts.
In fact, only two experts authenticated them and could not vouch for the documents themselves, only the signature, the sources said.
Mapes is said also to have told her bosses that her source for the memos Bill Burkett, the former guardsman wanted to be put in touch with high-level officials at the Kerry campaign, apparently as payback for providing the documents to CBS.
She was denied permission but went ahead and did it on her own, the insiders contend.

That's why she'll get the buyout if she's pushed. She and Burkett are scapegoats. He's a nut but she'll need money, and she'll get it. No way Dan Rather sawed off the trunk side of his branch with only their say so. He is covering more than his own ass. Mapes knows it.
They would be wise to be very generous.
Like I said, I made them for the cause. Click on my name and there's some other things I've made. I don't know about all that legalese stuff, but if it helps keep the hippie trash out of the White House then my job is done. Do what y'all can with them.
"Wise?" Who's giving odds?

Cool! I will pass it around! :)
Jojo, you need to do a little signature block on your work. Just because! You have turned out some fantastic stuff and you should forever have credit. :)
See?BS!
Here's one I want to make into a bumper sticker:
FNC Fox The Mainstream Media

Sounds like there are some conservative Senior that were still watching c-BS and dan RATher got fed up at last.
It will drop further. A lot. A person simply can not watch something so fundamently discordant. The discordancy is well-known now. Rather makes up stories, he doesn't care enough for his audience to share truth with them. That's very disenheartening to the viewers, and it is no longer possible for them to droop their own comfortable wool over their eyes to avoid knowing it. The only avaiable comfort now -- that's in tuning Rather, and CBS too, out.
But Dan Rather is more than a reporter, a talking head as it were, on the CBS Evening News.
He is the EDITOR IN CHIEF of the CBS evening news program and is RESPONSIBLE for making sure whatever he spews is factual.
He fell down on HIS JOB (again).
And for Mapes to carry the full blame for his demonstrates that Dan Rather has a huge absense of the 'courage' he is always talking about....pathetic. Hiding behind a producer he has known for a long time.
Stand up DAN, and take it like a MAN.
oooops...I forgot myself....liberals have a hard time with the 'man' thingie....change the man to 'metro-sexual girlie man', a more accurate, and Dan knows accurate (lol) title for Dan.
I personally wished they'd picked up Fox News instead, but Macrini specifically stated he wanted to avoid the "right wing radio" image, and ABC radio scores high among the demographics the station is targeting.
We're winning, folks. Thank you, Buckhead and Free Republic!
The circular firing squad continues!
You would expect viewership to increase considering peoples morbid obsession with train wrecks.
Just a thought.
