This is different than the earlier post from a Bush blog, which was opinions. This article is actually an evidence compiled by the GOP research guys.

Interesting that Nixon was brought down by a similar campaign trick that went awry. In truth, this is ten times more heinous a crime than the Watergate bunch. It will be ironic if this brings Rather down.

I also find it interesting that MSNBC doesn't have Scarborough Country's transcript up from last night yet. Joe's been doing great coverage on Rathergate. Pat Buchanan's been on fire!

It's usually up by mid morning PDT the day after the show.

What happened to the Fortunate Son & Texans for Truth campaigns?

That's an excellent breakdown of the timeline.

9 HOURS BEFORE THE CBS REPORT: "Democratic Party chairman Terry McAuliffe said, 'George W. Bush's cover story on his National Guard service is rapidly unraveling. ... George W. Bush needs to answer why he regularly misled the American people about his time in the Guard and who applied political pressure on his behalf to have his performance reviews 'sugarcoated.'"

Coordination? What coordination?

I don't see how Kerry can escape being caught up in this.

I mean, it is so obvious how this developed. It was an organized, coordinated plan to synchronize the attack on Bush from several fronts. The talking points were out there. I am sure that there were other, like Harkin, who were scheduled to follow in the anticipation that this story was going to pick up steam.

Can you imagine the eagerness Dan Rather must have had in the days before this aired? Remember, he lobbied to have this on Sunday's 60 minutes. He wanted the widest possible audience.

Can you imagine the Executive lunches and after work cocktail hours discussing how this story was going to sink the Bush presidency.

Now in hindsight it ranks up there with the Watergate bunch for the most ridiculous stunt. The RNC was so ahead in the polls they didn't need the Watergate stuff. CBS in this case didn't even have a story with any teeth to it.

I expect some of the same just before the election. Something that cannot be refuted because of a lack of time.

This would be a good start for a federal prosecutor.

I wonder what Patrick J. Fitzgerald is doing after the Wilson-Plame kerfuffle?

If it walks, talks, and smells like a Rat Op, it's a Rat Op. Mary Mapes and Dan Rather were eager participants in the operation. Kerry campaign shills trying to pretend that this wasn't a coordinated Rat Op think we're stupid. If Thornburgh doesn't focus on the coordination between CBS, the DNC, and the Kerry campaign, his investigation won't be worth spit.

Excellent piece of work. So the $18 Million Man (Terry McAuliffe) just happened to use the same word "sugarcoated" that the memos did. And the memos had not yet been broadcast and McAuliffe allegedly had no way to know what they said?

As Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, "Sometimes circumstantial evidence is compelling, as when you find a trout in the milk." This is a story about numerous trout in the milk cans of the Democrats. Fine, fine work.
