PALOS HEIGHTS - Buoyed by recent polling that suggests Illinois may be back in play in the Presidential race, a group of south suburban Cook County Republican committeemen plan to open a regional GOP office to aid President George W. Bush's re-election effort.

“This headquarters will provide a meeting place for Republicans to come together and share in the momentum of the Re-Election of President George W. Bush,” said Anne Zickus, Palos Township Republican Committeeman. The campaign headquarters is located at 13411 South Ridgeland Avenue in Palos Heights.

A grand opening celebration is scheduled for this Sunday, September 26th, at 3:30 p.m. at the headquarters. Information on helping the Bush/Cheney re-election campaign in the southwest suburba as well Bush/Cheney campaign materials will be available, according to organizers.

In addition to Zickus, township GOP Committeemen Elizabeth Doody Gorman (Orland), Maureen Murphy (Worth), and Richard Kwasneski (Lemont) plan to share resources and help staff the office.

Gary Skoien, the recently elected chairman of the Cook County Republican Party, and Mary Jo Arndt, Illinois Republican National Committeewoman, will be the featured speakers at the grand opening.

I got this e-mail from the state GOP chairman:

Dear LOLJ

Another poll has been released showing the Presidential race tightening here in Illinois.

According to American Research Group, Inc., John Kerry's lead over President George W. Bush has dwindled to only six points (49%-43%).

This is the second poll in as many weeks showing the Democrats losing ground in Illinois.

There is much work to be done between now and Election Day. As a result, we need you to get in contact with the Field Representative in your area to find out how you can help Republicans win up and down the ticket. You can participate in phone banking, precinct walks, sign distribution, poll watching, and many other activities to help the Republican slate.

The contact information for our Field Representatives is below. Please call or e-mail them and find out how you can help in your area.

Sincerely,

Judy Baar Topinka
Chairman,
Illinois Republican Party

This is indeed good news.

My elderly mother, in a s. suburb, wasn't going to bother with an absentee ballot, but in the past couple of weeks, she's changed her mind.

Since there was NO way she was going to follow my advice in that direction, it's a good thing too! LOL!

I got that same email today, I had written to the President about a week ago, telling him to make a whistle stop in Illinois, that I am hearing people who are changing their minds, also seeing tons of Bush/Cheney yard signs in many towns around me. I hope he does, Illinois going Repub!!!! WOW!

I also feel a lot of people in Illinois are not happy with the "new" gov. (D) Blago!!

From what I recall (lived in Chicago from 97-99), South Suburban Kanakakee County was growing like crazy and leaned Republican, while the inner south suburbs in Cook were becoming extensions of the city's South Side.

Wonderful!

I'll have to make a stop over there.

Remember, Illinois broke for Bush the last time we faced a Massachusetts liberal.

I intend to go. I passed the office today and it is right next to Frontier Grill (have been considering checking out this place). It's in a year or so old plaza just north of 135th street on Ridgeland.

See you at 3:30 or so...
