Did Kerry Lie about Attending the Signing of the Gulf-War Ceasefire
O'Reilly Factor ^ | 24 Sept 2004 | Rokke

Posted on 09/23/2004 9:18:29 PM PDT by Rokke

I just watched the rerun of O'Reilly's 2001 interview with Kerry discussing the need to invade Iraq. In that interview, Kerry said the following: "I mean, I was in Safwan. I went there when the signing of the armistice took place at the end of the war." I've watched the video of the cease-fire signing at Safwan. It was still in a combat zone. I don't remember seeing anyone but military officers. Can anyone provide additional insight, or has Kerry lied again.

"Kerry voted both February 28 and March 6, 1971. No votes taken on March 3."

March 3, 1991 was a Sunday.

In this long diatribe not even the remotest mention that he was even near Iraq. This is important because if he had been there he most assuredly would have pontificated on it in this speech on the Senate floor.

The signing happened on March 17, 1991

http://www.history.navy.mil/wars/dstorm/dsmar.htm
"17 March
Naval forces continue counter air-defensive, combat air patrols and minesweeping operations. Marine ground forces hold defensive positions. U.S./coalition military officials meet with 10 Iraqi military officers at Safwan Airfield, rejects Iraqi request to move aircraft around the country. Iraq warned that any Iraqi warplanes that fly would be shot down.

Crew of USS TRIPOLI (LPH-10) awarded Combat Action Ribbon for being endangered by enemy mine attack on 18 February. USS TRIPOLI remains in Bahrain port undergoing repairs."

2 March 1991 (Sat) - Kerry at "Brazil Night"

3 March 1991 (Sun) - Cease Fire Signed

5 March 1991 (Tue) - Kerry at National Democratic Institute dinner

There you go.

All humor aside, wouldn't it be March 3, 1991 in Iraq if it were March 2, 1991 in the US?

Yes, that's the one. Thanks.

I wouldn't be surprised if Dan Rather was there too.

Meanwhile, Sen. John F. Kerry, an honorary committee member, breezed in and out of the black-tie gala in minutes. The subject of fashion/style seemed an enigma to him. Kerry, wearing a business suit, stayed only long enough to accept a gift: a tin of candy called Rainforest Crunch.

Timezones, I would think, would play an important part at this point. We need a time for the signing ceremony. Saturday night, EST, would be Sunday morning in Iraq. Would Kerry even have the possibility of reaching the signing in time?

Here is a daily synopsis of the Gulf War. A quick glance shows no mention of a Senatorial delegation but, IMHO, it could be a great reference tool. http://www.sci.fi/~fta/gulf.htm#Gulf%20War%20Chronology

When EXACTLY was the cease fire signed? So far I've seen in this threa Mar 3rd and mar 17...now this???

"Iraq agrees to abide by all of the UN resolutions (Mar. 3). The first Allied prisoners of war are released (Mar. 4). Official cease-fire accepted and signed (April 6). "

Looks like you got it! With the 8 or 9 hour time difference, he couldn't have been at the signing.

Well we have EVIDENCE then... thanks to time zone issues (11:30am local, took 2 hrs) and flight times (around 14 hrs from the East Coast assuming no layovers), he can't be both at the "Brazil Night" gala and in Iraq for the cease fire signing.

11:30am in Baghdad is 3:30am in Boston on the same weekday (Sunday).

How did Kerry get from a night-time gala on Saturday night in Boston to Iraq when he had to have left around NOON (3:30am Sun (Boston) - 14hr flying time = 1:30pm Sat (Boston) ) to get to Iraq in time for the signing?

Obviously Kerry had access to a teleportation unit in 1991.

March 3, 1991 11:30am local

If I read the site correct, that's when the signing took place.

Quite possible congressional junkets would help if there are any records. Usually, one senator doesn't go alone to something like this.

That's great! Unless he chartered the concord, I don't think he was in Safwan on 3 March 1991.
