CBS Planning Another Anti-Bush Hit
Accuracy In Media ^ | September 23, 2004 | Cliff Kincaid

Posted on 09/24/2004 7:10:28 AM PDT by bikepacker67

The CBS scandal gets worse every day. Now, in an amazing twist, Michael Isikoff of Newsweek was on Chris Matthews' MSNBC "Hardball" show on Wednesday night claiming that CBS had been planning to air a story about the White House using forged documents to make the case for war against Iraq. CBS postponed the story so it could go on the air attacking President Bush on the National Guard issue. It backfired when 60 Minutes itself got caught using forged documents. Still, Isikoff indicates that 60 Minutes is planning to air the anti-Bush piece, perhaps as early as Sunday night, September 26.

There is only one big problem—the anti-Bush story, as described by Isikoff and eagerly embraced by Democrat partisan Matthews, is completely false. It's as phony as those National Guard documents.

The Iraq-uranium link, the subject of much media misinformation, has been documented and confirmed by authoritative reports from Britain's Lord Butler, who had been a cabinet secretary under five different Prime Ministers, and the Senate Intelligence Committee.

In an article on the Newsweek website, Isikoff claims that 60 Minutes had originally planed to run a story about "how the U.S. government was snookered by forged documents purporting to show Iraqi efforts to purchase uranium from Niger." Isikoff says the story, narrated by CBS correspondent Ed Bradley, "asked tough questions about how the White House came to embrace the fraudulent documents and why administration officials chose to include a 16-word reference to the questionable uranium purchase in President Bush's 2003 State of the Union." Isikoff says 60 Minutes has been working on the story for more than six months.

It's safe to say the Guard story wasn't what the lib's considered to be their ace card. Be prepared for more.

You forgot one other fact others here have mentioned: Rocco, the supposed source of the documents, claims the documents were part of his work for French intelligence.

Me thinks CBS pulled the story not because they needed to run the Rather piece but because this new development blew up the point of the story.

I.E. If the French forged the docs, well, the story may not follow on the heels of Rathergate so well. Given what we know here, I doubt Isikoff's, Matthews, and others failure to mention this seemingly essential element to the story is unintentional.

Randi Rhoades (yuck, how did we have good programming replaced by err america this week in Phoenix?), who is far more listenable than Franken, went on and on about this story yesterday. Of course, she doesn't appear informed enough to have realized that the French are apparently behind them. On a side note, I've tried listening to Air America to get a flavor for it over the last few days. My lord, they all appear to be of the "black helicopter" school of thought.

C-BS "style guide":

1. Re-load gun.
2. Aim at other foot.
3. Yell, "watch this!"
4. Shoot other foot.

Do you honestly think that CBS would do the same thing twice in just a matter of weeks?

---

Yes. Just like the previous story, the MSM will run with it as gospel truth.

Dan: Karl? Karl who? I don't know any Karl anymore...

Karl: Oh, come on Dan, lighten up, that was a joke, c'mon, it was pretty darn funny too!

Karl: The fishing tr.... Dan, you wouldn't do that over a silly little prank, wouldja? We're buddies, PALS, we've shared lures before. You can't cancel the trip. The kids will be heartbroken if Uncle Dan doesn't make it...

Dan: Forget it Karl, what you did was wrong and it hurt me and severely damaged our relationship.

Karl: Ok, Dan...... I'm sorry. Our friendship is much too important to me than some silly sophomoric prank. I apologize and I swear on a stack of Bibles that I would never try anything like that again. Okay?

Dan: You mean it?

Karl: Huh?

Dan: Do you mean it? You know, what you said.

Karl: Sure Dan! Of course I do, you know that...

Dan: I mean the part about our friendship being more important an all that?....

Karl: Why, SURE DAN!!! You're my bud! YOU know that!!! C'mon, Dan.... Friends?

Dan: Well, okay Karl. I'll forgive you this time under one condition....

Karl: What's that Dan?

Dan: That you let me sleep in the loft on the next fishing trip!

Karl: Well, Dan, the kids might get a little upset with their Uncle Dan, but, in this case, I guess they'll just have to get over it. Sure, Dan, you get the loft!

Dan: GREAT, Karl! I've already started packing! We should have plenty of good weather and I hear that the fish are really biti....

Karl: Uh, Dan?

Dan: ...ng and I've found this new coffee flavor and...

Karl: Dan?

Dan: ... I can't wait for you to... huh? Wh..? What is it Karl?

didnt the 9/11 committee side with Bush that Iraq "did in fact have or try to get yellow cake?"

Yes, and I am confident in suspecting CBS was poised to disregard that and full steam ahead with lying proganda (per their usual "journalistic" style; "Get Bush!").

Senator Kerry could take some guidance from President Reagan. President Reagan reframed the issue of his age to describe his experience while humorously indicating that Senator Mondale was young and inexperienced. There may be an opportunity to use the term 'flip-flops' to distinguish between one who carefully considers all aspects of an issue to reduce the risk of taking wrongful and harmful action. When George Bush indicates that Senator Kerry wavers or flip-flops, the Senator could display a key-chain-size set of flip-flops and ask the people whether they would rather have a president who carefully and publicly considers issues and events and takes prudent action with international consensus or one who has a private agenda, hides the truth, distorts and misrepresents the facts to the People, and takes imprudent unilateral and militaristic action that grossly offends the world, has a devasting impact on human life and substantially diminishes America's moral standing in the world.

Byron York said on Laura Ingraham's radio show this a.m. that SeeBS rushed to televise a segment the bogus docs...
it seems that according to York, that SeeBS did not receive the bogus docs until the Monday before the Wednesday show!!!
SeeBS put the show together on Tuesday for Wednesday's show...so much for the "five years that Mapes has been investigating" LMAO
