GOP admits to mailers suggesting Bible ban

New York, NY, Sep. 24 (UPI) -- The Republican National Committee says it mailed fliers to voters in two states suggesting liberals want to ban the Bible, the New York Times reported.

The mailings include images of a Bible labeled "banned" and of a gay marriage proposal labeled "allowed." A mailing to Arkansas residents warns: "This will be Arkansas if you don't vote." A similar mailing was sent to West Virginians.

Don't know when its kosher to put the whole article in the post. I found it interesting that the Wash Times is reporting on this ... not too surprising the the NY Slimes "broke" the story. My feelings -- I do not think this is something that the national party should do. This could have come from some kind of Christian-based 527 and had the same impact on voters without turning into a Slimes "scandalous" diversion.

Yes, but it is all true.

Haven't the libs already created an environment that if you have a Bible on your desk at work someone can claim religious harassment? I think I remember reading an article where this had happened.

I am not sure it is too far-fetched. Our good friends up north have already started jail time for people reading anti-gay quotes from the Bible.

Bibles are already banned in schools, correct? Along with any mention of God. Unless you are Muslim.

The Left has succeeded in at least one instance in banning the Bible in Canada (one pastor was fined for a poster with a biblical citation that condemns homosexual activity), so I don't think it is so far fetched that the Left would not try to destroy free speech and freedom of religion rights here in this country, particularly with the right kind of Supreme Court justices.

I agree that this is the province of a 527 and not of the RNC, but the rhetoric - while strong - is essentially true.

In Canada it's quite clear that the sodomite "marriage" movement has dovetailed with an anti-speech movement that is equating the public recitation of Bible passages as a "hate crime".

The Bible is already banned from schools.

I don't disagree with you a bit. My point about the GOP steering clear of this is that I do think it sounds a little hysterical.

Maybe, but there's plenty of truth to the idea that that is essentially what the left wing of the Democrat party really wants.

Well the liberals want the 10 commandments thrown out, and "under god" taken out of the pledge of allegiance, it wouldn't surprise me if they tried to ban the bible.

I don't see anything wrong with this claim...expecially since it mentions "liberals" and does not directly attack Democrats.

Yes there is. You need to be forward-thinking to see this though, and I think it is a long-range plan of theirs rather than a Kerry "100 day" type goal.

The GOP should not stoop to scaring Christians the way the Dums do old people and blacks. Let the 527s do it.

From another website...

3. BOOK BAN: CAMPAIGN MAILING SAYS LIBERALS WILL BAN THE BIBLE.
According to the NY Times, the Republican Party acknowledges mass
mailings warning residents of Arkansas and West Virginia that
"liberals" seek to ban the Bible. I was, of course, shocked, and
immediately called Valery Messalina, the only liberal I know.
"Why," I asked, "do you want to ban the Bible?" "This isn't the
sort of book you want to leave around where children might read
it," she replied. "It's full of stories of incest and rape, and
worse. As a mother, I want to keep it out of our country."

And there is a pastor sitting in jail in Sweden for preaching on Romans Chapter 1. The U.S. is heading in that direction if the leftist socialist nazis get their way.

So what's the problem. The left wants to ban the bible in schools and promote homosexuality in the schools.

They won't. Evangelicals make or break elections in this country, they don't in Canada or Sweden. This is the type of tactic that needs to be done to motivate them to the polls, but allows the MSM to blow it off as a hysterical scare tactic when the RNC is involved. Pass this stuff down.
