“…When Ron Brown was simultaneously a partner at the preeminent Washington law and lobbying firm of Patton, Boggs and Blow and chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), he was renowned as the consummate deal-maker. By all appearances, Brown's Department of Commerce has continued to apply the art of the deal. As one Justice Department investigator put it, a corporation can "pay to play." ..”

Freeper TexMex 12/13/98 observes ".Tommy Boggs, Cokie's [Cokie Roberts] brother, has been for many years the head of the most powerful PACs/law firm in Washington and is sometimes given credit for originating the concept of political activists committees as a vehicle to circumvent campaign contribution laws.."

April 14, 1997 - The White House released a list of donors and fund-raisers who were allowed to fly on Air Force One and Two with President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore. In 1995 and 1996, the Clinton Administration allowed 56 contributors who donated $5,000 and more and fund-raisers raising $25,000 or more for the DNC or the Clinton-Gore campaign to fly on the taxpayer-financed Air Force jets. Among the contributors flying on Air Force One: New York businessman Maurice Templesman, labor leaders Lane Kirkland and John Sweeney, Washington lobbyist Tommy Boggs, and Washington lawyer Vernon Jordan. Numerous trips aboard Air Force One were taken by Clinton-Gore chief fund-raiser Terry McAuliffe and DNC fund-raisers Marvin Rosen, Laura Hartigan, Richard Sullivan and Scott Patrick. None of the contributors or fund-raisers were asked to pay for the costs of their airfare on Air Force One and Two for official trips.

When Clinton was president he had 17 [Patton Boggs] people in the administration. Patton Boggs, headed by one of the most influential Washington lobbyists, Thomas Boggs, and which employs about 400 attorneys.

Rodney E. Slater, served as U.S. Secretary of Transportation since 1997, came to Patton Boggs after serving in the cabinet of President William Jefferson Clinton.

Tommy Boggs is the chief lobbist of Patton Boggs and his clients include EXXON, ARCO, B.P., MOBIL and SHELL and he is a close golfing friend of Bill Clinton.

Cokie's father, Hale Boggs, a former Democratic House Whip who was the product of a corrupt Louisiana political machine that dates back to Huey Long. Boggs was made a member of the Warren Commission.

Cokie's mother Lindy Boggs was appointed by President Clinton in 1997 as U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See (Vatican). Patton Boggs lobbies for such heavyweights as AOL Time Warner, Mars Corp. and Sony. Its roster of about 225 lobbying clients also includes major trade associations and state and local agencies.

Thomas Hale Boggs Jr., one of its principals, is known as a prominent Democrat. He is considered one of the capital's most well-connected and influential lobbyists.

Partners at one of the nation's most powerful lawyer-lobbyist firms, Patton Boggs, are said to be embroiled in an internal debate over the firm's representation of Saudi Arabia.

But the real ire has been raised by a series of national radio ads produced for what is described as a coalition of Arab-American groups by Qorvis Communications, in which Patton Boggs owns a 15% stake. The ads call for Israel's "withdrawal from the Palestinian land it has unjustly occupied for years," but make no reference to the suicide bombings.
