Hale DeMar, the Wilmette homeowner who shot and wounded a burglar inside his home last December, was celebrated as a hero by gun-rights groups nationwide.
But a look at recently opened police files in the case suggests that DeMar acted more like a vigilante than a hero--that it wasn't necessary for him to shoot the unarmed intruder to defend himself or his children, as he has claimed, and that he all but welcomed the confrontation in his home.

"it wasn't necessary for him to shoot the unarmed intruder to defend himself or his children"
Well, it wasn't necessary for the burgler to break into his home eithr! When someone breaks into your home, the operating assumption is and should be that they are there to harm you and your family.
I wonder how the author of this article would feel if his home is invaded, while he and his family are at home.

Too bad he's in a more liberal state.
In Texas, or other states (SW area generally) with make my day laws, it isn;t a matter of whether he had to shoot the intruder.
The intruder was in his house - unauthorized -
therefore
bang - bang - bang - bang - bang - bang
unless you have a semiauto with more than 6 rounds.
Get it ?
or maybe they should have had a discussion about it ?
spoke about the intruder's childhood, all the stress in
his life, how maybe he just wasn't understood by society.
Maybe he should have had a "time-out".

The burglar was in the man's homefor the purpose of burgling. He was not invited. He knew his presence was unwelcome. He got shot. Pity.

You dont go into someone elses home you dont get shot.
I dont care if the man sat in his armchair armed to the teeth 24 hrs a day waiting for a burglar to show up. When someone breaks into your occupied home you have to assume that if he gets a chance he will harm or kill you.Shoot first, ask questions later.

SURE we can not have people defending their homes from criminals! WHY that would eliminate all our bigoted notions of gun control at risk! Typical leftist scum. Cannot debate the issue so they have to try and discredit the opposition.

I wonder how many gun control activists actually have arms in their home or carry concealed. I remember several incidents when they were "outed" because they did indeed defend themselves in their homes and a police report was filed.
But, you know the libs...for me, but not for thee.

Notice how often it's been reported that the states with concealed carry laws have lowered their burglary and other violent crimes rates.
Libs hate the facts published every month by the NRA.

Here in Massachusetts we'd have to talk quitly to him and then seek mental health care for him.
States like Texas sound better and better.I'd shoot anyone who entered my home and tried to hurt my little dog,for God's sake.
Defending the family is a no brainer.

"bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, click, tinkle, tinkel, snip, bang bang bang, bang, bang, bang." I think there should be a lot more "bang bangs" between the "click tinkle snaps" as the AW and high cap magazine thingy has expired.
make that a "bang ..."repeated 15 times"
