Return of the Pajamahadeen: D.C. Chapter Freeps CBS News' Face the Nation 9/26/04
D.C. Chapter ^ | Sunday, September 26, 2004 | Kristinn

Posted on 09/26/2004 9:09:10 PM PDT by kristinn

Honor Roll for today: Trueblackman, Doctor Raoul, tgslTakoma, BillF, BufordP and kristinn.

The Pajamahadeen of the D.C. Chapter of Free Republic held a RatherGate freep of CBS News today outside their D.C. bureau where Face the Nation is broadcast from.

BufordP, BillF, tgslTakoma and I were first on the scene, arriving around 9:15 a.m. There were a couple guys out front setting up the mic stand for the customary press availability after the show.

Dressed in pajamas and bathrobes (except BillF,) we set up our signs and waited for Doctor Raoul and Trueblackman to join us. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) arrived about quarter-of as I was walking back from McDonald's. We crossed paths at the entrance to CBS. He said hello to the pajama-clad man on the sidewalk wearing a Rather Biased t-shirt.

Trueblackman arrived awhile later, dressed in pajamas and carrying a CBS Special laptop with Office '73 so he could create Bush guard documents for CBS on the spot.

Foot traffic was pretty light, but we did get into a few discussions with folks. One man started out by saying the Bush bumperstickers on one of our cars hurt our credibility criticizing CBS. He then asked who sent us out here to protest. The conversation never really got much better, but it went on for a long time.

A man who agreed with us about CBS stopped and talked with us after the other guy left.

When Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) arrived to do the show, tgslTakoma asked him if his recent campaign appearance for John Kerry in Nanticoke, Pa. was cancelled because it was near the hometown of Mary Jo Kopechne. Kennedy ignored the question and went in the building.

While we were setting up for a group photo one of the cameramen told us we were doing it wrong--we should be standing in front of the CBS building. We thanked him for his professional suggestion and brought our signs over to the other side of the sidewalk. He said he'd be fired if he took a photo for us, but we had a good laugh.

Doctor Raoul finally arrived and donned his Richard Nixon mask. He held Watergate themed signs to go along with the mask.

Sen. Kennedy came out from the building around 10:45 and went right to the mic stand. He took a few questions from the press. All I could make out from where I stood was "quagmire."

We didn't interrupt him except for BufordP who blurted out "Democrats" when a point was raised about who's harming national security.

When Kennedy was done tgslTakoma asked her question about the cancelled campaign stop again. Again, he didn't answer.

I asked Kennedy a question as he walked toward his chauffer-driven courtesy car from CBS, "Senator, being that the rhetoric about the Iraq war by you, John Kerry and the DNC is virtually indistinguishable from Zarqawi and Moqtada al-Sadr, is it reasoanble for the American people to question whose side of the war you're on?"

He didn't answer that question either. The news cameras followed him as we asked our questions and then swung over to us after he got in his car. The AP photographer took some pictures of us for her scrapbook.

Sen. Graham came out next and also stood at the mic stand to talk to the press. He was also hard to hear. When he was done we started to ask him a question but he told us he needed to go back inside.

The news crews were breaking down their equipment when Karen Tumulty from Time magazine came out and walked by us, checking out our signs. She smiled when I told her to be grateful it wasn't Time that had done the forged document story or we'd be at Time's door instead.

Sen. Graham came out with Face the Nation host Bob Schieffer. They split up--Graham went to his chauffer-driven CBS courtesy car and Schieffer walked by us. He smiled as he looked at our signs. I asked him if thought anybody watched the show this morning. He said something but I couldn't make it out clearly. It was a good natured response, though.

Bill from INDCJournal.com who was talking with us broke off to seek an interview with Schieffer. Schieffer graciously spoke with him for a few minutes. The exclusive interview can be found at the aforementioned link. Afterward, Bill returned to finish his interviews with us. When he was done, we packed it in and headed off to Luigi's.

I should mention that a CBS employee stood inside their door and took pictures of us. We saw him at Tuesday's freep also.

Our pictures to follow soon.

Think Together

Read: Philippians 4:4-13

If there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. —Philippians 4:8

Bible In One Year: Isaiah 5-6; Ephesians 1

An executive of the world's largest toymaker said, "We are such a machine in terms of what we deliver on an annual basis that it doesn't allow time to think."

In an effort to stimulate creativity, this company is taking selected employees out of corporate headquarters and encouraging them to think together in new ways. For instance, when asked to devise a method to prevent an egg from breaking if dropped from 14 feet, one group went beyond the conventional approach of trying to cushion its fall and created an egg bungee cord.

What about us? Are our lives so focused on activity and production that we don't take time to think? In Paul's letter to the Philippians, he told them to meditate on things that are true, noble, just, pure, lovely, and of good report (4:8). What would happen if we began this kind of thinking together in our churches and homes? Might we discover creative, God-given approaches to problems that seem to defy solution? Would our perspective on life undergo a radical change?

"Meditate on these things" is a great command. Obeying it with our families and other believers could open doors of discovery for helping others, serving God, and living for Him. Now that's something to think about! —David McCasland

Lord, help us to think of the right and the true,
The pure and the noble—it all points to You;
For if we consider what's worthy of praise,
We'll then want to live for You all of our days. —Fitzhugh

Right thinking leads to right living.

TWO SOUND FILES AND THEIR BACKGROUND

After a Sunday morning talking head tv show is over, guests often come out on the sidewalk and talk to other reporters "staking out" the outside of the building.  Both of the sound files linked below were made in the presence of Ted Kennedy as he came out for the "stake out" mini-press conference after CBS FAKE THE NATION.

Kennedy was about 15 to 20 feet from us.  As he started answering a question from a reporter, he says something like "the greatest threat to America's security   . . " .  "Is Democrats!" yells BufordP, who is quite a bit louder in the sound file because he was standing next to me.  CLICK HERE TO HEAR THE AUDIO [WAV FORMAT, 17 SECONDS, 194 KB], RIGHT CLICK AND SELECT "SAVE AS" TO DOWNLOAD FOR LATER PLAYING.  You have to turn up the volume to hear Kennedy, but BufordP's shout will be quite loud.

That was the one interruption during the press conference.  You can't believe how much self-discipline that takes when Kennedy talks (spews lies).  (I can't blame BufordP for the momentary lapse when Kennedy had the gall to talk about threats to America's security.)

Leftists would have prevented any stake out press conference by charging toward a conservative government official or shouting him down to prevent reporters from questioning and the conservative from answering.

When Kennedy walked to his waiting limo after his mini-press conference ended, tgslTakoma shouted a question:  "Why did you have to cancel your campaign appearance in Nanticoke, Pennslyvania?"  [Until someone realized the flub, Kennedy had scheduled to campaign for Kerry right next to the hometown of  Mary Jo Kopeche, the young woman that died when Kennedy drove her off a bridge in 1969.]

Kristinn then shouted a comment and question to Kennedy about Kennedy describing the U.S. involvement in Iraq using the same words as the terrorists.  Seeing Kennedy about to enter the vehicle, I'm afraid that I interrupted Kristinn by shouting "Watch out for the bridge!"  The sound file begins with Kennedy finishing an answer.  CLICK HERE TO HEAR THE AUDIO [WAV FORMAT, 37 SECONDS, 407 KB], RIGHT CLICK AND SELECT "SAVE AS" TO DOWNLOAD FOR LATER PLAYING.

can I use this for my coffee posts everyday.

Hi Mayor. Based on what I've seen of your posts, I expect I would be honored to have you use the mug. Would you mind telling me what the coffee posts are?

I'm beside myself that so many have expressed an interest in what began as a doodle. BTW, in case you missed it in an earlier post, this mug only exists as pixels at present. Working on a "real life" version of it as we speak. If you're interested, I'd be happy to ping you if something develops.

Regards,

FGS
