Kerry losing ground as talk turns to Iraq (now a TIE in MI)
Newspaper (The Freep) | 09/30/04 | Kieri

Posted on 09/30/2004 5:49:13 AM PDT by Kieri

The Detroit Free Press has a new poll showing that Kerry and Bush are in a statistical tie! They polled 840 voters and Kerry currently leads 48/46 among registered voters, but BUSH leads 50/48 among LIKELY voters. Kerry has lost a 4 to 6 point lead here. The margin of error is 3.5 percent.

The article adds that they're not sure why Kerry is in decline, but state voters support the action in Iraq 48/42. There's a great comment by someone who never voted for anyone other than a Democrat since JFK (from Ann Arbor, of all places!!)

The article can be found here: http://www.freep.com/news/politics/fppoll30e_20040930.htm

I don't understand something. If they register someone to vote that is fraudulent, then how does that person vote? Just registering doesn't get them to a polling place.

"I've never voted for anyone other than a Democrat since JFK, but I'm going to vote for my first Republican president," said Cichanski, 65, a retired geology professor who said he did some soul-searching to switch party allegiance. "I think the Democrats couldn't have picked a more horrible candidate than John Kerry. I think he's a fraud, particularly with the whole business of terrorists and Iraq.

"He scares the hell out of me. I don't think he wants to win."

My dad, a southeastern Oklahoma, conservative democrat who I don't think has ever voted for a Republican, has said several of the same things about Kerry. "Why in the thunder would the DNC run Kerry? With all of them in places of power, why did they pick a pacifist to run in a war year?"

This was from the same man who told me (when I was 8) that my liking Reagan even though we were poor was akin to a chicken liking Col. Sanders.

It's a bad sign when those who always vote democrat announce they won't be voting democrat this year.

Well, bad for Kerry. Good for our side.

She ended it by saying "at least the kids can run around naked." The other day she said of the idea of losing Arizona in the election, "Who cares? One state is not the whole state." Whatever that means. Sean was playing that one a lot. It was a hoot!

Teresa Heinz-Kerry's remark was about letting the people in HAITI do without clothes (the point being that it is so far away and so remote that they needed drinking water and food and medicine first, before clothes, in the limited space available on ships and planes or whatever). One valid point was not that it was inaccurate or wierd but that it resonates like the alleged remark by Marie Antoinette (which was probably invented by her political enemies, though), "Let them eat cake". Since she has personal wealth between $1,000,000,000 and $3,000,000,000 that will resonate very well with the average middle class voter. I also think something could be done with it in the African-American community if it were taken as an insult to the African-heritage people in Haiti.

With regard to the question of Kerry being ahead among all REGISTERED voters but behind among LIKELY voters, we need to act with the sure knowledge that this presidential election will be very high turnout (legal or illegal) so that basing any hope at all on "likely" voters is irrelevant. Millions of "unlikely" voters are going to vote legally, and millions of "even more unlikely" voters are going to vote illegally. SO we need to act scared and keep working until the polls close 11/2.

My mistake. I thought she was talking about Florida. I'm should have known she'd not talk the same about them as the Haitians, who probably reminder her of her countrymen back in Mozambique.

Many people here in Florida are living in the 19th century without power, telephone, or any newsources. If what you say is true, then why haven't the Florida Republicans been outraged over this statement?

Like Dee Dee Myers says: Kerry is in deep doo-doo.

While I'm 99.9% sure Bush will emerge victorious on Election Day, that causes me to be a bit worried--after all, when you've hit bottom, only 2 things can happen. Either you stay there, which I hope is the case with Kerry, or things can only improve for him for the better. Whereas with Bush, when you're flying high like he is now, the tough part is staying there.

She stopped by a Caribbean-American neighborhood in Brooklyn where the people had quickly put together a center where people could drop off donations to send to their native land. This was for relief in one of the islands. Teresa asked why they were sending clothing when they should be more concerned about sending water. Since she deemed water distribution a primary priority (which technically was correct, but she was not talking to the folk heading the relief effort; she was talking to some citizens who were sending what they could spare from their own belongings), she added that the people, particularly the children, could go naked for a while as they awaited clothing contributions. A total put-down to the effort these people were organizing.

Absentee voting or having someone show up knowing the person's address. Provisional ballots make it a lot easier.

BTTT.

Finally, a poll with some good momentum for W in MI.

At the rate things are going, what states won't be up for grabs come election day besides MA, RI, and that wasteland where they elect crackheads back to the city council -- DC?

Michigan is definitely in play. Both sides are spending lots of money on TV ads in the Detroit area.
