"Republican presidential nominee and Texas Gov. George W. Bush appears to be holding on to leads in two national polls, despite a widespread perception that his rival, Democratic nominee and Vice President Al Gore, won the first debate in Boston. "
"Even more important, state surveys conducted the night after the debate show Bush may actually be winning more votes even though Gore won the debating points..."

Agreed. I mean come on.
Why would any of us really believe that the MSM would even admit the President won a debate even if he did??? We know they will spin this and the other debates as Kerry wins.
So who's panicking?
I'm not panicked. I'm angry.
Still, sweet memories of Reagan persist. There are several places Bush could have sailed it home- where Kerry left himself wide open- and knew it.
For instance, where Kerry actually compared himself to Reagan just before Bush's turn to speak. Wow. Bush needs more sleep. He also needs to use better posture and stop leaning on the lecturn- geez, we learned that in high school debate club.
Anyway, I was fantasizing about something like, "I knew Ronald Reagan, my father worked with him. Sir, you are no Ronald Reagan". But alas, that would have been too unpresidential. Curses.
I don't think the President won this one. But neither did Kerry. Bush was clearly tired though.
Well, yeah! He's been out doing his job AND campaigning, not taking time off for spa's, tans, manicures and teeth-whitening....
I thought Bush could have decked him when he said that the administration was back in Congress asking for more money for the war effort.
I would have said: "Will you vote against it again this time?"
I'm panicked. And Angry.
Yeah, Bush defintely won on substance, but Kerry looked more classically Presidential.
All the Kerry supporters are basking in the glow of what they believe is a Kerry win. But just wait. After the bloggers, internet media, and talk radio, especially Rush and Sean pick apart Kerry's statements over the next few days, he's toast. I mean some of the things Kerry said were pretty crazy.

This is what I meant. We need to think about what we just saw happen. Sure, we wanted the KO, but when it gets right down to it, it was either a draw.. or Kerry lost on what he said (or didnt say).
I have a hard time believing that Kerry won anyone over, especially those truly looking for answers. Kerry probably sured up his own base and may move toward the middle in the next debate.
Not to mention a stop at the auto body shop for a coat of orange paint.
I don't think the President won this one either.
My point was even if he had, why would I believe that the MSM would say he did. They would have still spun it as the President losing. We know who the MSM wants in the white house.
Don't delude yourselves. This ain't going well so far guys. I agree on all three counts.
Bush is missing opportunities, and Lehrer is letting Gore run the debate.
It is making me sick to watch.

Stop the whining !!!
Kerry looked like the bloviating politician that he is. Remember this: Mondale won the first debate. But we all know what happened. Gore won the first debate in 2000. We all know who is President today. There are still two debates to go. Gore lost the third debate badly in 2000. That's what everyone remembered.
