Not one time has anyone mentioned that CFC's - ChloroFluroCarbons were the reason there was a problem with ozone to begin with.

CFCs are extremely stable and non-toxic substances that were just wonderful to use in all sorts of stuff. They are so stable that when they are released into the atmosphere they make their way up all the way up to the Ozone layer without reacting. Then, the UVB energy that does not normally reach the lower atmosphere breaks up that molecule into it's components - one of which is chlorine. Chlorine then proceeds to destroy up to 100,000 ozone atoms before reacting with something else (like methane) and neutralizing it.

The reason the hole is shrinking is likely due to natural variance combined witht he fact that we stopped using the CFCs in the quantity that we had been.

It is a success story for science and common global action that were led during successvie Republican administrations (Reagan / Bush 42). This is not political anymore. When Dupont agreed to stop producing CFCs it was truly a sign that everyone, with the exception of a handful of looney ideological radicals, agreed on the science.

When did Mexico stop producing and using CFCs? Did the rest of the world stop making and using it also?

My air conditioning guy seems to be able to get and use all he wants. It just costs more, unless he gets it from the black market. I sure didn't see people where I live throwing out any air conditioners recently. Plenty of car trunk dealers will get you all you need.

My guess is the US greenies feel good about what was done while nothing was accomplished but the price of the old product going up. Typical. Sort of like the latest go at pollution control laws in CA. Force people to drive smaller cars whether they want to or not. Say it makes the environment better. You just can't tell me that removing the last 0.5% is going to do squat. If CA want cleaner air, they need to move away from the la Brea Tar Pits and cut down all those damn Eucalyptus trees.

It may be a good thing that newly manufactured equipment switches to a more environmental friendly manufacturing and chemical use. Probably take 15 years for the effects to be found. But saying that saved the world is a stretch if you ask me.

And yet the ozone hole shrunk. At the same time the sun decides to go on high. I need more proof.

If you don't agree with me, then well, you are a looney

Be seeing you ...
