Did Kerry Disclose CLASSIFIED Information Last Night?
Self | 10/01/04 | Self

Last night my jaw dropped when Senator Kerry talked about the U.S. testing nuclear tipped bunker-buster bombs. And how under "his watch" this program would be discontinued. The President did not touch his comment, and I figured it was because it was Classified and could/should not be talked about.

Since the "cat" is out of the bag, perhaps we need to investigate and see if perhaps Senator Kerry just violated his security clearance.

We need to check into this and break this into the open just like Rathergate.

If true then it needs to be made VERY public.

It will confirm that kerry doesn't have the ability to keep his mouth shut and hence the ability to be President.

The existence of a nuclear bunker buster program has been common knowledge for quite a while.

My first thought after hearing this was "Here he goes again, committing to weakening our national defense by saying he will stop development of advanced weapons."

Kerry was trying to show he "knows" what's going on with the military. Obviously he wants us OUT of Iraq and he is ridiculing these efforts and IMPLYING that we will be in Iraq for a LONG time.

did you all see the zeal and energy that lit him as he commandingly spoke of "ending this program!" as if expecting an applause. I'm sure he got one from Tehran and Pyongyang.

well, what he did do was let rouge nations know if he is elected to start building bunkers since we cant BUST them.
IT is a great example of how Kerry has no idea how to defend this country. Why would you tell them we are NOT going to build them? any deterrant value is lost.
Kerry is a fool.

Unfortuately, the media had reports months ago that there was a project to develop low-yield bunker buster nukes, so I don't think this was classified.

After all, Kerry as a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee hasn't attended any meetings and had to make a special trip back to Washington to receive a briefing on terrorist threats, only after he was criticized, so he probably hasn't had access to anything classified.

Do a quick google on "nuclear bunker buster" - there are loads of articles, one good one follows:

http://www.clw.org/control/nukebbusters.html

In advance of consideration of the Energy & Water Appropriations bill, Congressman Ed. Markey (D-MA) circulated a dear colleague opposing the nuclear bunker buster that garnered 83 signatures. In an unprecedented move, the House Energy & Water Subcommittee cut $262 million from the nuclear weapons activities budget for the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). This included cutting $10 million from the nuclear bunker buster program and all of the $6 million for advanced concepts. There were no attempts to restore this funding in full committee or on the floor. However, in full committee, Congressman Norm Dicks (D-WA) was able to add language that steers the research on the bunker buster to focus more on devising the casing to enable earth penetration, rather than on the modification of the warhead itself.

Google "nuclear" "bunker" "buster" for lots more hits. If it's a secret, it's a poorly kept one.

Not a security violation, but a lost opportunity for Bush.

Kerry voted against every major weapon system in the past.
Kerry voted against funding the troops in the current war.
Kerry said, during the debate, that he would kill a major weapon system of the future.

Should this man be Commander In Chief? No. Bush should have nailed him.

It's really amazing that you all would be more concerned about whether Kerry disclosed classified info than you would be that the Bush administration is developing new nuclear weapons.

Kerry didn't seem to have a problem with it...

I don't believe that he divulged classified material. I recall seeing something about this before here on Free Republic.

Kerry has no idea of the consequences of allowing our strategic defenses down... I would have expected more common sense from a senator of 20 years...
