Reuters: Rice Says She Knew Iraq Tube Claims Questioned
Reuters ^ | 3 October 2004 | Wire

Reuters is off to the races with the NYT-inspired conspiracy theory regarding Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld supposedly suppressing information about the non-existence of Saddam's nuke program:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Top U.S. officials were aware some pre-war evidence cited to make the case against Iraq's Saddam Hussein was questionable but U.S. intelligence officials nonetheless deemed the threat of his developing nuclear weapons credible, top White House aides said on Sunday.

President Bush's national security adviser, Condoleezza Rice, one top aide who cited the claims about aluminum tubes seized in Jordan in June 2001 in urging that Saddam was attempting to revive a nuclear program, was responding to a report in The New York Times that Bush officials ignored doubts about the potential other uses of thousands of the high-strength tubes to press the case for war.

This is obviously all of a piece with the DNC's latest push for a piece of the undecideds who wouldn't know a cover story if it walked up and slapped them in the face.

duh - everybody knew the tubes were QUESTIONED

The question was whether they would use highly precisioned tubes for a purpose that degree of calibration was not necessary. The adults decided that wasn't a question not worthy risking the wrong answer to merely ignore to later find out.

EXACTLY -- so what if we were wrong. It was the right thing to do, even if there was only a tiny chance of it being true.

It's these kind of brave, gung-ho decisions that make me wonder why anyone would vote against Bush.

What a marvel our America has become. If only we could get rid of the dems. ;-)

Reuters is off to the races with the NYT-inspired conspiracy theory regarding Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld supposedly suppressing information about the non-existence of Saddam's nuke program:

Wait a minute Reuters..... I seem to remember a speech given by a guy named Clinton in 1998 that outlined how dangerous Saddam was and how dangerous his 'weapons of mass destruction' would be to the world? And Clinton's Secretary of State, the lovely Madeline Albright, seemed to make that term 'weapons of mass destruction' a household term? Are you suggesting that Clinton and Albright were wrong? Geez, they used the W word two years before GW Bush was elected??????

Way too much liberal spin going on these days.......

"duh - everybody knew the tubes were QUESTIONED"

Not only was the "tube issue" debated before the war, it was lengthily addressed in the Senate Intel. Report.

Indeed, the NYT piece acts as if it was new info. Both NYT and Kerry people want people to forget the bipartisan Senate Intel Report didn't exist - because the faults are clearly laid not on Bush, but on the intel community and bureaucratic arthritis.

Maybe they'll raise the Joe Wilson "evidence" again.

If Bush loses the election because of lies like these and skewed debate coverage, we're going to have to contest the results...

I don't know what I'd do if Bush lost. :-(

more media bias:

http://freedomstruth.blogspot.com/2004/09/powerline-exposes-aps-twisting-of-news.html

This one is AFP, twisting Abazaid on MTP last week ...
http://freedomstruth.blogspot.com/2004/09/afp-distorts-on-troop-strength.html

This seems to be a common tactic:
1) write a misleading article
2) get the 'victim' to come on to MTP to get harangued by Timmie Russert with leading questions.
3) whatever they answer, find the juiciest quotes to 'confirm' the BS story, even if it contradicts the point the Admin official was REALLY MAKING.

They just did it to Condi Rice now, too.

Rice was making the point that they *did* believe and *still* suspect these tubes were really for centrifuges, not rockets.

Maybe they'll raise the Joe Wilson "evidence" again."

They've sunk to phony documents ... they've sunk to lies about the draft ... I think they will dredge that up, but since it is wholly debunked, they will wait until 3 days before the election and bring it out.

Ghouls will come out on haloween.

They keep sinking lower every day.

Today, it's allegations about suppressing information about the WMD programs in Iraq. That's essentially accusing Bush of treason.

How much lower can you go?

maybe you didn't see or read the statements of Saddam's head centrifuge program guy in recent weeks - their nuclear program was ready to be resumed at "a snap of Saddam's fingers" and he figured they'd shaved "months if not years" off the time it would take them to build their bomb this time, as compared to their progress prior to 1991. If Bush had not acted, France, Germany & Russia were ready to lift sanctions, our troops would have come home, the no-fly zone would have been rescinded by the UN and the clock would be ticking. like the sound you often hear between your ears. it's similar except without the echo syndrome ROFLMAO Troll Alert!

http://www.archive-news.net/Articles/SH040923.html

After 2818 dead American civilians one Sept morning, no US President can take the chance or erring on the side of political caution. Kind of wonder why the Left is fixating on only this one minor point and ignoring the rest of the evidence? Could it be because they know their opposition to Iraq Libeation is based on political Bush hate bigotry rather then a thoughtful rational assesment of the threat?

From a Strategic, Moral, Intellectual, and political viewpoint there is NO justification for opposing the liberation of Iraq. The only reason the Hard Core Left clings to their bigoted opposition is because they lack either the moral or intellectual honesty to admit they were wrong so they HAVE to discredit the war NOW to avoid dealing with their guilt for being the empowerers of Saddam's murderous regime.

"How much lower can you go?"

I'd say something like "using forged documents to 'prove' Bush did something nefarious" but I don't want to give Dan Rather any new ideas. :-/

As for the tubing story, here's what I have to say:

BRING IT ON!

We attacked Iraq to defend our nation. Period.

If people don't get that through their heads soon, I'm goign to go nuts!

This is exactly the truth.

No good deed goes unpunished. If Bush hadn't removed Saddam we would be facing a more severe threat in the GWOT and in WMDs.

And it is exactly the truth to say that if Bush had *not* acted to removed Saddam, the MSM today would be planting stories of "ignored evidence of serious WMD developments in Iraq" and feeding it to the Kerry campaign, who would be saying today 'I called Saddam Hussein a serious threat and the Bush administration did nothing etc."

Yes and it's in the new Kerry attack ad.

More of the left's lie and smear campaign against Bush.
