Most American latinos don't go for these illegals either.

Your right. A woman in our area who is a legal immigrant from Mexico wrote a scathing letter about damage illegals are doing.

Also, while listening to a talk show about the subject, another legal immigrant farm worker called in. He complained he was having trouble getting work because the illegals were taking the jobs for less.

We need more like them to speak out.

Yep, it is a fallacy to believe new citizens and legal residents like to see any of this illegal stuff either.

His leadership after 9/11 on the war on terror has been excellent.

WOSG, most of the points you made in your post were excellent and well taken (seriously, you have made me at least reconsider my positions).

However, as "looney" as it sounds, many of us down here along the border DO consider many of the illegal aliens terrorists. We you to add up the murders and other violent crimes that illegal Mexicans committed each year, I think you would find that it eclipses the numbers of 9/11. Year after year.

And I have seen gangs of these illegal invaders (I believe that is the correct term), indeed TERRORIZE entire neighborhoods, including entire police precints. Kids are gunned down, people get caught in the crossfire, to the tune of 600 people in the city limits of LA alone. People witness things, and are PETRIFIED to talk. The cops don't want to cross these, and people end keeping their kids indoors, and conduct themselves as if they are living in a war zone. And this is occuring in neighborhoods RIGHT HERE IN THE UNITED STATES. Not in Iraq. But here, in your country. And GWB is doing not one damn thing about it.

Now, most of us are fortunate that we don't happen to be in these places. I used to live in just such a place, and got out ... but i've seen it up close and real personal.

Terrorists don't all wear towels on their heads. Most of our terrorists don't.

Yes, we do have enough "bad people" who are American Citizens that also commit crime, that we certainly don't need to import them.

And when whole groups of people illegally sneak into the country to commit these horrible crimes, I call them what they are .... Terrorists.

And, therefore, when taken in totality, I personally view the "War on Terrorism" as a complete and utter failure. We've targeted nd neutralized a minority group of Terrorists, while completely ignoring those who cause more harm to the US.

The "war" is spun to Victory, but those of us who know better, know full well that they still walk among us, and guess what .... those guys wearing towels on their head (the ones the media tells us to fear the most), are fully aware of the pourous southern border.

Something to think about before your feeling too victorious.

Again, your other points are very well taken, and I appreciate the food for thought that you provided.

you are confusing criminality with terrorism.
I am not disputing your points, yes, illegal immigration and related crimes is a serious problem, but
as Conservatives we should remember that words do mean things, and if we redefine terrorism do be something other than what it is, we lose its meaning.
Lettuce pickers coming across to make a higher wage are not terrorists. Even car-jackers and thiefs are not terrorists.
And comparing numbers is a bit apples v oranges . More people are killed by drowning in swimming pools than by terrorists ... but that doesnt make swimming pools a greater threat than Al Qaeda.

Things wrt immigration can and should be addressed at state, local and Congressional level. It doesnt all fall in the President's lap, and surely you understand that this problem existed *well before* Bush became President. I dont expect it is Bush's job to do what the police should do in keeping neighborhoods safe, and if you want to fix LA, ask their police chief why *THEY REFUSE* to cooperate in any way with the INS and *THEY* refuse to enforce any sort of immigration laws. They won't even *ask* that question of people in custody! That's *THEIR* fault, not anyone elses, and we could be deporting criminals left and right if *THEY* changed in LA. (Certainly President Kerry wont change that policy.)

"what a bunch of idiots. Have bush lose, make things worse."

Depends on whose ox is getting gored. If you are on the border, yours is.

If you are a one-issue voter, and immigration is your one issue, then Bush is the worst presidential candidate. Unions will pressure a dem president to limit immigration. There is no limit under republican rule that we can see.

I'm holding my nose and voting for Bush, and this is one of the main reasons why.

Agree. Inanimate objects cannot be swimming pools. Accidents are not acts of terrorism.

Premeditated acts of violence by non-american humans, against americans humans, would fit MY definition of terrorism. Remember, the word means different things to different people.

The "innocent lettuce picker" arguement is only as good as the "most islamists aren't terrorist" arguement. The question is, do enough of them threaten the U.S. to become a legitimate target of US anti-terrism attention.

As far as asking the police to do the job, that is rather difficult when the numbers of people coming across the border dwarf the number of police, when such people are awarded amnesty or "guest worker" status.

You can make the arguement that it is the job of the border patrol and local municipalities, but when you have a president that is actively working against those goals, and all but garenteeing to make the numbers larger - it is a rather unreasonable task to request.

The President must lead by example. Not promise amnesty, then shift the blame to a 5,000 person police force to stop the flow of millions he has practically invited.

No, I would have to say that the President dropped the ball on this one all by himself. He needs to support the border patrol 100%, and absolutely and positively refuse to give out rewards for those who knowingly break our immigration laws.

If that doesn't happen, localities don't even have a shot.

The Republican whip was on Lou Dobbs. Looks like the republican congress is going to fight Bush on this illegal issue after Bush insisted any document safeguards be dropped, ie. licenses, etc from the house bills. They do listen when people complain loud enough.

because they haven't gotten 110% of what they wanted

I'm sorry but actually I can't even see 10% of what the socials may have wanted and received from this administration. Can you? I have finally come to the conclusion that President Bush is wearing his Christianity on his shirt sleeve just to pander to the Christian right! Many on the right have been duped once again by a double dealing politician presenting himself in sheep's clothing IMO.

Be careful what you wish for.

What I wish for is a man who will work for the (lawful) American people and the Constitution, that's right, legal American citizens I said, not the hordes of unworthy tax-dollar sucking illegal aliens that are invading our country at President Bush's personal invitation and their slave-wage masters and no-border proponents in America.

I see my single-issue as or more important as you see your single-issue! Actually I have more than just one issue with Bush at this point. If Bush was really serious about the WoT he would not be putting Americans in harms way through our wide open borders!
