French ban Muslim fashion parade From correspondents in Paris October 5, 2004
A PARIS suburb has banned two fashion shows featuring veiled Muslim women, saying the events could disrupt public order.
In an official order, authorities barred "Ready-to-wear for Muslim women" from being staged twice in Montreuil-sous-Bois.
The order said the catwalk shows were banned as they aimed to "show the fashion relevance of items of clothing such as the hijab and the burqa", "trivialise the wearing of the Islamic headscarf" and were closed to men.
"A serious disruption to public order could result," it said.
Officials said the town, led by Communist-linked mayor Jean-Pierre Brard, made the decision after complaints from several pro-secularism associations.
The first show was scheduled for October 3, and police said it did not go ahead.
But postings on an Internet chat room said the second catwalk event would go on as planned on October 10, somewhere in the Paris area. It did not give a specific location.
The announcement that the two shows organised by the "Jasmeen" label were cancelled came as spring-summer 2005 fashion week began in Paris, bringing together the world's elite designers for eight jam-packed days of shows.

*Muslim fashion parade*? Potential images make me ill. Yuk.
Oh come on. This has to be from the Onion.
Does this make me look fat?
I give it 20 years before France bans women from walking around without veils. 30 years tops.
Evening wear
Sporting wear
Swim wear
Formal wear
They'll show off all the hot new fall colors for Semtex and C-4, the perfect way to accessorize your kid's suicide vest just in time for school.
LOL!! I guess that everything has a positive side --- just one all-occasion outfit.
LMAO.....do you design catalogs by any chance ?
Muslim fashion = oxymoron.
Love it! While I will regret all the deaths of French civilians, it's entertaining to watch France deliberately put her head in the guillotine of militant Islam.
Great plan- open your borders, let in tens of thousands of Muslims, then restrict their religious freedoms. Duuh!
Another take on this- proof positive that it's liberal governments that are most likely to restrict one's religious freedoms. Being a member of a formerly persecuted minority religion, that's a hot button issue for me. Things aren't perfect yet, but it's in countries like Great Britain, Australia, and the USA that members of minority religions fear persecution the least.
Compare this with the suppression of ALL religion in Communist countries, and the many other countries where there is a single State religion.
Your riff off that old TV commercial. Russian model. Well done!
Show me some wrist, honey!
,,, flash some pink and get rid of those catwalk blues.
.....Did you say "catwalk blues?"
There's a right wing government in France right now.
