A little tip for you. NO kielbasa in the pasta gravy, ok :)
My goodness, you were so PC in your post. I'm a gavone. Not an Italian American :)

Old news. The Italians have run Boston and Massachusetts for many years now.

It could be worse. If the Dominicans became dominant (they are the largest ethnic group in NYC now) it would mean gigantic San Lazaro medallions to go with the gold chains.
Let's not forget 1982 IROC RZs with dice in the mirror and a horn. That's what the guys in my nabe on Lawn Guyland were driving back in the day.

OK--let's keep the food and some of the funky ethnic dances, but STILL be Americans.

OK--let's keep the food and some of the funky ethnic dances, but STILL be Americans. True. Unfortunately, upward mobility among certain ethnic groups means that its is getting harder and harder to find good pizza and bagels, even in New York.

Unfortunately, many politicians of either ethnic group do not take their Catholic faith seriously and use the government to promote abortion and homosexual activity (through civil same sex marriage).

Being of Irish descent...
I love Italian food.

Down in the Bronx, Queens, Staten Island, Brooklyn, and Long Island, and South Philly, our Italians vote Republican.
Quick, name a single prominent Italian Democrat from NY, NJ, or PA!

Pierogi or Gnocchi ... decisions, decisions ...
To: Pharmboy
well another solution is to just purge Massachuttes and be done with it.

And bread!
It is absolutely useless to embrace any ethnic heritage without the mom and pop specialty stores that carry the ingredience needed to enjoy the heritage.

Try Addeo's and Madonia in the Bronx for bread. Both are worth the drive and the salumerias and bakeries on the Arthur Avenue/187th Street corridor still do a strong business, although most of their customers now live in Jersey and Westchester.

Well since Mario Cuomo (who lost the Italian vote in '82) and Geraldine Ferraro (who's major constituencies were the Jews and the Irish anyhow in north and central Queens anyhow) are gone, I can't think of any off the top of my head.
Isn't Santorum half-Italian?
