Cheney met Edwards at a prayer breakfast?

Posted on 10/06/2004 6:27:56 AM PDT by Mr. Goodcrank

I think Cheney made the case that Edwards and Kerry simply have better things to do than "report for duty". Their voting records reflect this. Cheney skewered Edwards when he said that the debate was the first time that he had met Edwards. Cheney evidently forgot about that one time at the prayer breakfast. Aside from the fact that Dick Cheney has made literally thousands of more memorable acquaintances since that ONE time. Aside from the fact that Edwards may not have made a lasting favorable impression. Aside from the fact that Cheney may have meant "met" in a more substantial way than a prayer breakfast. How does ONE social gathering compensate for, or mitigate, the fact that Edwards and Kerry are chronic no-shows? This proves that Cheney is a liar? There must not be many straws left to grasp!

Why would he make a comment that could easily be proven false? Why is he giving them the ammunition to call him a liar?

I know drudge has a piece on this right now. I am not sure about the dates but it seems to me Cheney was referring to Edwards as senator and was speaking to the fact that Edwards has not been seen in the Senate very much. If they met before Edwards held the job of senator, it wouldn't mean much anyway.

Watch for the Dems to nitpick this to death. CC Connelly on Fox last night said,,well "Cheney goes to the party lunches, of course he isn't going to run into Edwards," or something to that effect (that was a paraphrase). Who said anything about lunch?

Guess if you are for limited government may be Kerry & Edwards look like the ticket. They never show up for the job, therefore they never govern.

Welcome to FR.

At an event such as a prayer breakfast there are often over 1000 people in attendance, IMO, that doesn't mean much. Why didn't Edwards remember this either?

This is just splitting hairs. Cheney cleaned his clock last night!

Um, I don't believe they did meet.
The both attended the same event as hundreds of others.
Not exactly the same thing as seeing your co-workers at work day after day.

The news media wasted no time showing Edwards at a late night stump speech pointing out that he did meet Cheney 3 years ago. They didn't mention what the occasion was.
Prayer Breakfast is not quite showing up for a session of the senate, is it?

Were you there, did you witness this, plus Cheney probably thought Edwards was the bus boy if he was there.

Maybe he was trying to get Edwards to admit to attending a "Prayer Breakfast." That could lose the dem ticket a lot of votes.

Actually, Elizabeth Edwards is the one who put out this spin.
It's very telling that neither Cheney nor Edwards refuted the remark in the first place, but his grasping ambitious wife made sure to correct it (if, in fact, it is true).

Gee. Cheney says he never met Edwards before. Edwards doesn't disagree.

Who am I gonna believe Cheney or the Democratic spin machine?

Tough choice, not.

First thing I thought was that it is a pretty poor offense on Edwards part to call Cheney on saying they had never met. Supposedly they met at this prayer breakfast and at Elizabeth Doe's swearing in ceremony.

What does it say about someone who is that unmemorable. Also, Cheney is President of the Senate. Edwards is a sitting Senator. Why do they not have a senatorial relationship? It would be like an employee who works in an office of 100 people and the boss doesn't know who you are.

Edwards has done nothing in the Senate to be noticed

Edwards walked behind Cheney; they did not even see each other.

Does that constitute a meeting? Don't think so.

Prayer breakfast? What was Cheney doing at a Satanic ritual that Edwards frequents?
