SOLON, Ohio - Hundreds of fish were killed by shampoo that washed into a creek from a L'Oreal plant, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency said.
The fish died after rain on Saturday flushed the shampoo from the plant's gutters and downspouts into a storm sewer that empties into nearby Beaver Meadow Creek in this Cleveland suburb. A chemical reaction in a plant mixing vat on Sept. 25 had caused the shampoo to burst through a pipe and onto the roof.
"It killed hundreds of fish and created a tremendous amount of foam," EPA spokeswoman Linda Oros said.
L'Oreal spokeswoman Rebecca Caruso said Monday that the cosmetics company has complied with an EPA request to route downspouts into a holding tank to keep runoff from the storm sewer in any future spills.

This was a story on the news, and what this printed version doesn't tell you is the company had a chemical spill and attempted to contain it themselves. However, being French and not understanding what happens when it rains in Ohio (which it does often, and this plant is new), the chemical ran off into fresh water source and killed hundreds of fish. Wonder why they are getting a pass on this by the Gestapo Enviro Agencies.

They must be making that stuff for export cause they sure as heck do not use any soap products over there.(sarcasm)

If they had done limited scale animal testing in a controlled facility, it could have saved this carnage on these poor fish. Ban shampoo, it kills poor little fishies!

Once this news reaches Paris, the French will really stay away from any personal hygiene products. "Zey are verrry dangereuse, n'est ce pas?"

Fish killed by shampoo that washed into creek Well, that's understandable, once you realize how little soap and shampoo ever enters the wastewater stream in France - the fish just had no built-up tolerance to the stuff.

Your right! I caught that after I had already posted, Sorry! When I hear anything about France I get riled as I was in the military when France kicked us out and we lost our overhaul facility for army aircraft.

Wasn't it Jack Daniels that had a whisky-related fish kill a few years back?

Wasn't it Jack Daniels that had a whisky-related fish kill a few years back? IIRC, it was either Jim Beam or Wild Turkey. In fact, there might've been incidents involving both.

Karl Rove did it...you know that accusation is going to show up somewhere.
What kind of fish do they have in France anyway?

Here it is. Jim Beam, Wild Turkey, and a few others have all had fires/spills that got whisky into the creek and fish got killed.
Not surprising that shampoo would also kill fish.
Also not surprising that the'd get a pass if it can be shown that it was not a willful event but an accident.

If there is money to be made count on the Kennedy environmental law firm to be there with his very own environmental special interest group bringing him another fat law suit...
No wonder the Kennedy's love Edwards so much....trial lawyers of a feather

Oh, usually the scaly kind - with acomplete set of fins and eyes and buoyant bladder, nothing exotic, just the ordinary stuff.
