Yes LOL. Like I said, I deserved it and readily admit that. However, I never had any problems with my snowmen being destroyed after that...
Object Lessons are cool.
True, but then you'd have to find them again before mowing your lawn. Also, their effectiveness is compromised when deployed on softer surfaces (they sink), the board acts more like the police "stop strip".

I agree with these sentiments (a number of mailboxes in my neighborhood have been taken out and mine is probably next), but please don't actively booby trap your property. The law may be wrong (there is an old saying that the law is an ass), but property owners who booby trap are liable when injuries occur, maybe even criminally liable. It does not matter that the injured party was trespassing or even breaking and entering.
Something like a "substantial" mailbox some posters have described would probably not be considered a booby trap, however. The cops are likely to look the other way if some yahoo hits one of these "substantial" steel mailboxes and is injured. I can't imagine cops have much sympathy with vandals.
A lot of my neighbors have installed stone or brick mailboxes. It seems to stop the destruction, but it's expensive. My neighbor told me he priced them at $600. He decided to go with a heavy post he installed himself, but I think it may be destroyed again.
BTW, there is an article posted today on FR about Bob Dylan's new book. Bob describes all the problems he had with trespassers and how he wanted to defend his family. The cops warned him that if he even fired a warning shot, he would be the one in trouble.

The sling has one end attached to the end of the arm and the other end looped over an angled peg near the end. When you release the counterweight, the arm begins to rotate, the sling pulls taught and starts dragging the projectile back (away from the line of fire). As the arm continues it's arc, the sling follows in a curving path. As the arm reaches the top of the arc, the looped end of the sling slips off the peg and the projectile flies free. There is much empirical science in the placing of the peg and it's proper angle with respect to the arm. This refinement has been carried out for centuries to get maximum range and power from a "Trebuchet". http://www.trebuchet.com/

Well after all, it is Bush's fault. :-)
Thank you. Do you know how a centrifugal punkin chunker releases the pumpkin to get it to go in the right direction? These things get spinning like a propeller, so it would have release within about about a 15 degree "window of opportunity" or it would cause some serious problems.
Classic thanks Lowbridge.
