Honestly, I see this as Australians, slightly Left of the US, as ratifying the Bush-Blair-Howard Doctrine.

Howard has been unambigiously in support of preemption and has stated publicly that he would use preemptive force in Indonesia or Malaysia if he needed to (resident Malaysian anti-semite PM Mohammad Mahathir threatened war if such a thing happened).
