Come on NFL. Does this make any sense whatsoever, if so explain it. I for one will let them know what I think about this.

Well, he sure didn't do what a certain Baltimore Ravens player did.

Wore Tillman's number on his jersey.
To: FesterUSMC
Plummer wore his number on his helmet. When the League banned further tributes like this after week 2 (only exception was the Arizona Cardinals), Plummer asked if he could continue to wear the number since they were teammates, and the League responded by letting him know that he would face a fine if he did so.
IMO Plummer just made the NFL look sad and pathetic.

The NFL does not want players to where his # like they did
in week 2. They are fining players for ignoring this IDIOTIC rule.

He can try and get the rule changed, but until then he signed contract that says he will abide by the NFL by-laws...

As stupid as this rule is, I have to admit I am impressed by Plummer's commitment to his teammate and friend's memory. It's a positive aspect of what has become an overmonied, underclassed cohort of prima donnas (with notable exceptions).

True, but again, there are exception to every rule and IMO this would be one of those situations. The NFL opened themselves to this by only allowing players (minus the Cardinals) to wear his number in tribute in week 2. There is a lot more symbolism in tearing that sticker off than putting it on and the NFL failed to weigh that into there decision.

Jake Plummer has defied the NFL and honored Pat Tillman on Sunday. Knowing that he will be facing a $5000 fine, Jake Plummer said he just hopes they give his fine to the Pat Tillman Foundation. It's more likely they will give the fine to MoveOn.org or George Soros.

I know that sending money to Jake Plumber is like mailing sand to the beach, but I am going to drop a twenty in the mail to Plummer, c/o his team.

Just a thought here...
As a tribute to Tillman, the NFL authorized players to wear his number on their helmet for one week.
What if something else happens that affects another player in a profound way - maybe a loved one dies, or maybe he finds Jesus (or the devil). Should the player be allowed to put a picture of the loved on on his helmet, or put a cross (or a 666) on his helmet?
The attire these guys wear are UNIFORMS. They are to dress uniformly.
People have been calling this the No Fun League, yet some of these people probably mocked the XFL when they allowed all sorts of strange behavior (and some strange names on their shirts).
The NFL has lasted this long, and will last longer, if they maintain control of issues such as this.

Real brilliant thought. Tillman died a true American Hero. He didn't profoundly affect 'one' player. His courage is what made this country great. If another player comes along and shows that much courage and loses his life then put his number on a helmet too. To equate Pat Tillmann to putting 666 on your helmet is stupid. A poor analogy.
