Keyes made good points on trade. NAFTA and GATT are just shafts for the USA tax payer.

Exactly the perfect response. You can't expect a general strategy to respond to a unique tragic catastrophic illness.

Yeah against slave jobs and slave good!!!!

Keyes is nailing the trade issues... Obama says "Currently flawed and we need to do better..."

Whoa. Keyes sounds like Pat Buchanan on trade. This won't go over to well with some on the FR or Kerry/Clinton democrats.

He presented the issue well.

The mod is questioning tariffs. He just doesn't get it! Why dont lefties understand that competing with slave labor puts good people out of work here?!? What the hell is so hard to comprehend??? Good job or cheap things. You CANNOT have both. Duh!

"Static analysis," to say that (reasonable) tariffs would hurt workers at Wal-Mart (what a funny case, Dellamore brought up).
I have to remember that, "dynamic vs. static analysis." Enlightened.

Free trade is a myth. Keyes has taken this issue away from Obama. Maybe a good move.

Keyes is not a Libertarian. (He's a "Classic Liberal," like most FReepers.)

Keyes: "I think [farming] has a great future, because if it doesn't America has no future."

"I'm not liking Alan's raging protectionism."

I like it... Maybe more on that later, but the free-trade BS is EXACTLY as Keyes represents it...

It's not protectionism so much as "original intent."

"Keyes is going to earn the distinction of getting a smaller percentage of the vote than any other Democratic or Republican candidate in any 2004 House or Senate race."

Nobody ever expected Keyes to win this. However, he's an effective and persuasive spokesman for conservatism. People in Illinois, especially black people, will now have a rare opportunity to hear those ideas. That's why he should be supported.

I love his protectionism. Like I said before, you cant have a strong economy AND equally strong neighbors. It doesn't fly.

Sadly, you are correct.
