North Little Rock Police Department Warns of Potentially Lethal Candy Being Handed Out
Criminal Justice Dept. , North Little Rock Arkansas | October 13, 2004

Posted on 10/14/2004 7:55:09 AM PDT by sweetliberty

This came into our office this morning. The police do not know how widespread this is. Something to be aware of.

--This message came to me by way of the Criminal Justice Institute. While the NLR PD could not verify, they did suggest that this alert be spread widely. Please pass along !

North Little Rock Police Department put out a warning. Someone is giving middle school & high school kids suckers that look like: Maple Leafs; Pumpkins & Santa Claus that are laced with three different TYPES OF VERY STRONG DRUGS THAT ARE HALLUCINOGENIC, and this is STRONG ENOUGH TO KILL a child or teenager.

The Police station received a tip from the Memphis, TN police. Some arrest in Memphis have been made. These suckers have turned up in Blytheville. Officials' fears that these suckers will begin to show up throughout the state.

If you have children, or know someone with children, PLEASE inform them of this possible threat to our children.

If they catch the person(s) responsible, they should make them eat all of the confiscated candy, at one sitting.

Three different hallucinogenics that are potentially fatal? Never heard of such a thing. Only a couple of experimental animals have ever been killed by LSD that I know of.

This smells funny.

I'd be more inclined to treat this as the 2004 variant
of a very old urban legend, until it does VERIFY.

Fortunately, these stories are always urban legends. See the Urban Legends Archive.

I got the same email, but smell the stench of an urban legend here. At least the little twerps aren't blasting the "Blue Star Tattoo" emails any more.

These stories smell like Jack Chick and his anti-Halloween crusaders.

Hmmm.....'wonder why the Memphis Police Department would only warn North Little Rock, Arkansas?

'wonder why they would do this without notifying TV, Radio and Newspaper reporters to spread the word locally if they had made arrests?

'wonder why - if they did notify all media outlets, it hasn't made the national news.?

'wonder who could manufacture such "drug laced" candy in large quantities?

If it is being given out, wouldn't all the parents of the children be interviewed live on TV and all other media right now?

Does this sound like a Dan Rather story to you?

Well, yeah, in a general sense. I was looking for this particular story.

This message came to me by way of the Criminal Justice Institute.

While there is an Arkansas Criminal Justice Institute, such warnings don't seem to be part of its functions.

So, what kind of visions did you have when you ate the lollypops laced with drugs?

I work in child protective services. This notice was sent internally. Perhaps it is a semi-local issue. We have a lot of drug producers in this state and lethal ingredients are sometimes used to produce them. Memphis is just across the border. Anyway, I didn't figure we would be alerted if the police didn't think there was reason to be concerned. Perhaps I'm wrong.
