>>> McConnell will never be defeated, you can take that to the bank.

Don't get me wrong. I hope he won't, and I never saw anything first-hand. My point was that, based on what well-connected dems I knew well said they could prove, Senator McConnell can't take anything to the bank if he runs against a slimy, mean-spirited dirty-tricks operative.

I do have my suspicions that their "proof" is about as legit as Blather's National Guard documents ...

In a few respects. The thing is, Bunning is a controversial politician who appeared to get lucky. Remember, he won the last election by less than 7,000 votes. He was facing a very tough race against then-Gov. Paul Patton. But Patton's zipper and arrogance destroyed his career. In the meantime, Bunning's aggressive fundraising scared off other 'Rats. (Ben Chandler is probably kicking himself for skipping this race). And when he drew a little-known state legislator, he became cocky. Some of the statements Bunning has made defy logic. And his mistakes, not any strength of Mongiardo's, created an opening. He's still favored, but any further gaffes could put this race in the doubtful catagory.

Like I said in a previous posting, I wish Anne Northup were the nominee instead of the aging Jim Bunning.

Mitch McConnell will probably retire in 2008. He's had a series of serious health problems, and he's not getting any younger.

McConnell will only have token opposition, if any at all, in 2008.

I'm sorry but you obviously have never met or worked with Jim Bunning. We should all be so mentally functional and healthy at the age of 72.

I've lived in Ky 41 years, and I know who Daniel Mongiardo is. As a teenager, I used to buy beer & liquor from their "family store". Heck, all the kids from Knott Co (which is dry) knew they could get booze in Bulan at Mongiardo Liquors! I don't know if the ABC ever caught them, but they made lots of money from My friends & I. I just wonder why none of this has ever come out.
