The hit piece on John O'Neill.
Worse. They valued the word of Viet Cong communists over our own troops.
That reminds me...did you know John Kerry served in Vietnam?
Rush -- On ABC's Nightline, on Thursday, they did a hit piece on John O'Neil. The Nightline crew traveled to Vietnam to the exact place where Kerry shot the guy in the back and earned a Silver Star. This incident happened on February 28, 1969. They interviewed the peasants. One woman's husband died that day, but while she was shown at his gravesite, his date of death is listed as 12.1.69. That is not February 28, 1969. Also, the peasants interviewed said that there was a lot of enemy around. However, in Kerry's bio, Tour of Duty as well as the Boston Globe's book about Kerry, it states there was only one enemy....the man that Kerry killed. Nightline, in their zest to nail John O'Neill, actually nailed Kerry. Nightline's story contradicts Kerry's own versions in Tour of Duty and the Boston Globe story. This means that Kerry lied in his after action reports and the books...according to the peasants. Try to watch this segment. O'Neil lets Koppel have it. He ends with, "You've been had Ted".
I was a small child when Vietnam ended, so I missed most of the anti-war sentiment at the time, even being raised by a flower child.
I was appalled by the treatment of Mr O'Neill last night by Ted Koppel. It was like they were being spit on all over again. It was horrendous. We are making a contribution to the Swift Vets this afternoon AND buying their book. I've never been so offended by the media, and that's saying a LOT.
Vietnamese peasants living in rice paddys are very well dressed. Hmmmm..
Kerry was already gone by then ROFLMAO
Ted is scum, I will never watch that POS.
Last night's discussion.

No. But O'Neill did.
No, ted didn't...but John O'Neill sure did!
I did last night. I think their computer probably exploded when they opened up my complaint.
And what nice emerald earrings they have.
Rush said he's going to have sound bites from Nightline.
I didn't see any "big battle" going on in Kerry's home movie. He was calmly walking out of the "jungle" after shooting the fleeing Cong guy.
And, if there was a big battle going on and he beached his boat and left it, that would be a massive case of dereliction of duty, i.e. leaving his crew behind, unable to leave without their skipper.
Has anyone in the MSM given this guy an honest shake? O'Neill just goes into these interviews knowing they are going to try to ambush him.
It might be right but I hope not.
But there are still many unbelieviably stupid voters who have not yet decided whether to vote for President Bush, or John Kerry.
Or maybe Kerry went back so he could spend another Christmans in Cambodia...
The next two weeks will be unprecedented in terms of media involvement in attempting to swing an election, IMO ( and when I say that I am not underplaying one bit what they have done in the past-- I just think what we are about to see will be jaw-dropping, even given the pitiful standards of the past.)
Rush now talking about the U of Iowa Presidential market...for people who want to bet on the presidential race...
Was that on a gravestone? Where does this info come from? Is Ted going to bite the Rather Wienie on this one?
Rush just said that Zogby has Bush up by 4 points.
I suspect Vietnam follows the European convention of day, month year rather than the american convention of month day year. So 12.1.69 would be January 12, 1969, not December 1, 1969. But, it's still the wrong day!!
Well of course, Ted never went there. . .but John O'Neil held up the picture and let Ted know it was there and why.
Always thought that would be a great ad for Swoftvets. . .just let people know who values Kerry's accomplishments/contributions to winning that war . .just show the picture. . .tell where it is and why..
ahh. . .,make that 'Swiftvets'. . .as opposed to the 'other'
Rush just said he's going to get into the Nightline story soon.
The days of black or white "pajamas" are past. Most men wear standard American style shirts and dark pants and commercially available sandals.
Last night's "Nightline" was possibly the most appalling piece of "journalism" I've ever seen. They went all the way to Viet Nam to interview the VC, yet only interviewed one Swift Vet, and that was O'Neill, who Koppell talked over the entire time and wouldn't let him get a word in or make a point.
Utterly appalling. This and the CBS fiasco proves without a doubt that the MSM will do anything to get Kerry elected.
During my term of service, '67 to '75, the Army used the same date form.
Was that before or after he served as an Altar Boy?
It was before he invented the internet. Or am I thinking of some other loser?

Date appears correct following using lunar cal.
I saw the episode and thought the two main Vietnamese looked awfully young to have been there... they appeared to be in their early 40's to me... and the event was 35 years ago.
Yeah, and he was calmly walking out of the jungle DAYS after the so called "battle".
What is the deal with this interview on Rush?
Hey Van Asdale get a clue! ('Moderate' mush head.)
I do not think the peasants were actually lying to the ABC folks but I doubt they were all talking about the same action and were possibly conflating more than one action. They saw and experienced a lot of war-many battles over those years. It can be hard to sort it all out, which happened when. They were also looking to please the Americans. Vietnamese all over the country,Communist or not, want to please the Americans.
Was Nightline trying to verify one of Kerry's attrocities?
I didn't think the SwiftBoat book questioned Kerry shooting the guy (in the back). What did they prove?
More slander, and lies, just different country, obviously. Interesting about the date on the grave stone of the woman who said her husband died that day. I didn't catch that before!!
Nightline report was such a joke and Mr. O'Neil did good in frustrating Koppell's attempt to discredit the SwiftBoat Vets. Viewed from the military perspective and considering publish information on subject, the ABC Nightline analysis is bogus.
The VC statements given on Nightline and ABC's website do not materially vary from published accounts of the action, and actually support SwiftBoat Vet claims. ABC conveniently summarized the action in a way to meet their need to support Kerry by discrediting the SwiftBoat Vets. No justification or factual information was given by ABC to reasonably conclude that Ba Thang was the "loin clothed teenager" from Kerry's memory of the battle. Yet ABC tries to conclude that because VC state Ba Thang was 27 years old and may have worn black PJs, the SwiftBoat Vets are liars.
Now let me get this straight, ABC and the Kerry citation:
He "personally led a landing party ashore in pursuit of the enemy," the citation says, before commending Kerry's "extraordinary daring and personal courage" for "attacking a numerically superior force in the face of intense fire."
Nightline claims that 20 VC were in fact a numerically superior force in the citation that attacked three heavily armed SwiftBoats with 15+ Americans and 30 some Viet Allies? Maybe my understanding of which was group was a numerically superior military force needs to change to the ABC model.
Is ABC Nightline is worse than CBS Rather, or just dumber? And they can't claim they were victims of a fraud, Nightline is the fraud
Nightline is still on? Keopels still alive?
I have to wonder if the person who went to VietNam 6 mos ago was someone from the Kerry campaign to either pay them off to build Kerry's story up or possibly to just see what they remember. The things they said could be taken either way. Someone said a former Swift boat vet is running for President and some people don't think he earned his medals. Could be dems...
