Keyes receives fine for past violation

SPRINGFIELD, Illinois (AP) -- The Federal Elections Commission fined Alan Keyes' 2000 presidential campaign $23,000 Thursday, and an ethics group filed a new complaint alleging misconduct by his current U.S. Senate campaign.

The FEC found that Keyes took excessive contributions when he sought the Republican presidential nomination in 2000. It ordered him to pay a fine and repay the government $95,302 in public funding that his campaign accepted.

His presidential campaign admitted accepting $168,200 worth of contributions over the individual donation limit, which in 2000 was $1,000 per person. It also acknowledged it had taken at least $15,000 in anonymous contributions, among other violations.

I know you didn't mean reincarnation precisely, but it was a humorous comment. Illinois, the not lived in world

Our politicians will be successful in this election because of that hope. G. W. Bush will be reelected because of that hope.

But in the end, it is not that success which we strive for, but rather the success that will be for us like the success that Moses saw for Israel, when he sat upon the mountaintop, looking into the world he did not live in, but knowing that it would be a world broadly lit by the great sunshine of righteousness because he had given his all to make it so.

This has been the spirit of our party since the beginning. And it shall be the spirit of a great new future for the State of Illinois.

I, and many others here on FR have been called an enemy of Keyes and much worse for having the temerity to disagree with any of his positions. If you don't fall into that category, then I apologize for misrepresenting you.

Paid himself a nice salary. Maybe I should look into making vanity campaigns for Congress, Senate, or the Presidency.

But first you must form a vanity campaign exploratory committee, and convene a board of directors!

Empower Illinois denies any coordination with Keyes and says its ads are meant to educate voters -- not attack Obama.

If they aren't coordinating, I wonder how Empower Illinois got Keyes' email lists?

Because I, a Georgia voter who happens to be on Keyes' various email lists but have no other connection to Illinois politics, somehow managed to get an email asking for donations from Empower Illinois....

Speaking of "you guys"...

You guys? I thought Alan Keyes and his followers were Republicans too?

Kind of reminds me of an old joke:

The Lone Ranger and Tonto are riding through one of the many canyons, when suddenly rising from the hill on their right are hundreds of Indians.

They start to spur their horses forward, when they realise that there are hundreds of Indians ahead of them. Wheeling to the left they, once again, see hundreds of Indians rising from the hill. They begin to back away in the direction from which they had come and they realise they are surrounded. The Indians had spread out and they are trapped.

The Lone Ranger turns to Tonto, his life long friend, and says, "Tonto, my friend, I think I must say that I have treasured our times together, but now I think we are doomed."

"We?" replied Tonto. "What's all this ' we ' stuff, Paleface?"

Whatever the subject - it's a little creepy that folks have the need to back track on postings that someone has made.

That's some big coin. What did he accomplish with that?

Ran for President :>)

When you think about it, it really is a major feat.

A black man with grassroots support raising $15 million to run for president.

Someone needs to tell the NAACP there really is advancement for colored people.

Did you look at it or just spout a knee-jerk response? This is the second newbie in two days to post a negative article on Keyes. The other was definitely a troll and was called on it on another thread. This one is posting numerous articles and very few replies after a very short time here. Take a look at those articles and see what you think of the overall POV.

Creepy or not the function is there and I use it as do many others.
