Maybe that was the moment when Kerry jumped the shark. It couldn't happen to a better "not a very nice" man.

As bad as Kerry's using Mary Cheney was I still think Elizabeth Edwards comment was more hurtful. How can a mother say that another mother is ashamed of their child? That was the lowest comment I have heard. It sounded like something DU would have posted.

You are absolutely right. What in the hell was fat, ugly - really, really, really fat and ugly - Lizzie Edwards thinking? What a demonic moron!

That's true, they are known as Democrats!

It was Margaret Truman's singing, not her piano playing, that was at issue.

"WHAT WERE KERRY AND EDWARDS HOPING TO ACCOMPLISH BY REFERRING TO MARY CHENEY BEING A LESBIAN?"

By way of the Kitty Kelly book, and other sleaze books, we were supposed to believe that the Bush/Cheney families are not good Christians, nor families with strong values. We were supposed to fall into the stereotype Dems/Libs have of conservatives as bigoted homophobes who would not vote for someone who has a gay relative.

They used this strategy (DUI October Surprise in 2000) to keep home 4 million Evangelical Christians from voting.

You can bet money the next surprise will be: the abortion rumor about an ex girlfriend of the President.

They are trying to destroy the family values coalition, plain simple done.

It wasn't relevant. She's not the subject. She is being brought up for other reasons.

I disagree. The Swift Boat Vets have impacted the race. Kerry's support has never really broke out of the 45-47 range. Ask ABC since they ran that stupid story on Nightline last night. They know these vets have caused the public to question his character.

'She is a lesbian! Everyone knows it. Why is this a big deal?'

It's not polite. It is none of their business. It is not noble. It is not admirable. It is not cool to bring it up as a barb. Your mama would not be happy if you don't see that.

The Post poll aggregates by region. It does show Kerry with a sizable lead in the "Midwest." I suspect that includes Michigan and Illinois, and does not accurately reflect the close races in Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

agreed.
Kerry's was bad, and low class, but he could always try to BS his way into "I was trying to answer the question...blah, blah, blah"

Mrs. Edwards was completely beyond the pale. The women I work with were offended with Kerrey using another's kid to make a political hit. They were appaled and Mrs. Edwards. I think the 1-2 punch of scum and scummer probably cost the women's vote for the Dems, and thus the election.

I could be wrong, but women in my office who usually don't give a hoot about politics were shocked a ticked off about Kerrey and downright PO'd with Liz Edwards. The women I have talked to are much more vocal about this whole issue, even more ticked than the men....

They think they are going to scare the religious right into not voting for Bush Cheney.

Sincere people of faith may not condone Mary Cheney's life choice, but they treat others with respect and dignity. Kerry doesn't know the meaning of the words "respect" and "dignity." (He apparently doesn't know the meaning of "integrity" either, since his mother repeated it to him three times, and he still didn't get it.)

If you have to be told why, then you are not capable of understanding it.

What if W starting expounding upon the great affliction in the impoverished community – obesity – and used Mrs. Edwards as an example.

Everyone knows she is right? Would that be sleazy?

So the winner of the debate was the winner of the debate before he was the loser of the debate?

Sort of ROFL!!!

Actually looking back through history elections have not hinged on the winner of the debates, but rather every election with debates (1984 being the one exeption) has boiled down to one LOSING moment or perception.

1960 - Richard Nixon looking sweated, pasty, etc.

1976 - Gerald Ford : "Poland is not under Soviet Domination"

1980 - Jimmy Carter : "I was just discussing nuclear issues with my daughter Amy" --- Reagan's "There you go again" was just the icing on the cake.

1984 - The exception. Mondale did not do anything to "Lose" the dabates and actually was considered to have done very well. However, Reagan was immensely popular, and was able to win the electorate back over with his wit & Charm after the disaster of the first debate.

1988 - two words -- Kitty Dukakis

1992 - Bush looking at his watch, looking perturbed, being "mean-spirited". Perot was a wildcard, but Perot and Clinton really did nothing to "win" the debates.

1996 - Bob DULL

2000 - Al Gore sighing, being annoying, Dingell-norwood dingell-norwood!!!

That brings us to 2004 -- Kerry did quite well, he showed why he was considered such a great debater. Bush, stumbled in the first debate, but corrected and connected. All in all a tie --- So Do we have a LOSING MOMENT? two words - MARY CHENEY!!!!

Kerry will follow Ford, Carter, Dukakis, and Gore into Debate GAFFE history.

What was the purpose in both of them mentioning her in their debates? WHY did they do it? Do you honestly believe they were trying to be "helpful?" WHY did they bring it up???
