Newsweek: Too Close to Call (But it's 50-44 likely voters)!
Newsweek ^ | 10-16-04 | Newsweek

Posted on 10/16/2004 11:50:18 AM PDT by handy

Results based on likely voters (as opposed to all registered voters) give Bush the edge, with Bush-Cheney pulling 50 percent of the vote and Kerry-Edwards drawing 44 percent in a three-way race (Nader still gets 1 percent).

Funny, it's usually not too close to call when Kerry is up by 1.

Already posted, but I'll use this post to say that after Newsweek's recent BLATANT manipulation of poll results (based on balances of Dem vs. GOP voter percentages), I'm not buying anything they say about this race.

"Bury the lead."

Exactly ...

A six point lead for a Dem would be headlined:
"Dem builds solid and insurmountable lead,
GOP in disarray"

"subhead - why are the people abandoning the Republicans?

50-44 is now too close to call?
just how large is their margin of error?

No wonder we don't trust Newsweek polls.

When Kerry was leading by 1 or 2 % it was a lead, even if it was within the margin of error. When Bush is ahead by more than 5%, outside the margin of error, its too close to call. Do I detect a bit of biased reporting? No, never, not with our pure and trusty news media.

They're all gloom and doom over on DU. They've gone so far as to accuse Freepers of fixing the results. I'm just revelling in their despair!

Anyone know where we can get the party affiliation break down. This looks REALLY bad for Kerry. If you read the break down in the story, it really looks like the weighted this toward Democrats since Bush's numbers stink. Bush is supposedly losing in just about every category in the Newsweek poll yet is up 2 points over all??? Bush is behind with MEN voters? Only way to get that result is too heavily weight this towards Democrats. To me that suggests that while hating Bush, a significant number of Democrats are STILL picking him over Kerry.

The internals are ass-backwards. Bush is up among men and down among women. Actually, he's picked up more women then Kerry. We're going to be deluged with a torrent of polls over the next two weeks. Virtually all of them will be worthless.
