KERRY GAFFE ON ITALY? (Any way to further exploit this stupid statement by Kerry?)
NRO The Corner ^ | Ledeen | Michael

All Italy is abuzzing today about a Kerry gaffe aired last night on HBO in Italy. As reported in today's Corriere della Sera in Italy, Defense Minister Antonio Martino criticized John Kerry for an incredible remark that the conditions of the Iraqi Army were so bad that even the Italian Army could kick their a**es.

Martino remarked that Kerry, "instead of saying what he thinks, should think about what he says."

But that would be too much for the great statesman from Massachusetts, wouldn't it?

Hi. Longtime lurker. I know this story has been discussed before, but I thought I'd address it again as a means to get this some MSM coverage. According to the article, there was apparently some sort of HBO special involved. Is there video of Kerry making this statement that can be viewed and spread around? Has anyone sent this to Limbaugh, Hannity et al....?

This, along with Kerry's stupid statment about Haiti, could be useful in the next weekly news cycle. This would help to undermine his assertion that he is better able to make inroads with other countries. This could be very beneficial if we can get this out there. I'm not sure what you Freepers usually do to try and get stories covered, but if you can get this out there, I think this and the Haiti story could do some damage to Kerry's credibility. Perhaps it has been covered, but I haven't seen anything in the MSM or heard anything on Rush. Having the video and audio would be BIG in my opinion.

(I hope I posted this correctly and in accordance with your rules. My apologies for any errors I may have made. I'm a new poster. Thanks.)

The Italians get a bad rap. Sure they performed badly in WWII, but that was due more to inept leadership. Didn't they fight well in WWI? And of course no people have a prouder military tradition than those who can claim to be the heirs of the Romans.

The Republicans should find a way to get this gaffe publicized out into the large Italian-American communities in NJ, northeastern OH, western PA, MI (Detroit metro area).

I'm an italian-american, but to me this is just a wisecrack that, predictably, fell flat.

Kerry is remarkable in his lack of a sense of humor. This guy can't tell a joke if his life depended on it.

It does show that his mindset is off-kilter. He insists he has what it takes to unify 'the world' behind the USA. In fact, to him it seems that 'the world' is esentially Russia/France/Germany. He shows little or no respect for our allies (UK, Poland, Italy, Australia, and others), saying that they were bribed and we are 'going it alone.'

In sucking up to our critics, he puts down our allies.

Frankly, all those nations had a chance to join us - some refused. That's ok, really - I have consistently felt that sooner or later everyone is going to have to take sides. If the French and Germans, for example, really 'flip,' then we would just be at war with them, too.

Crises are good - they show you who you can depend on and who you can't. Kerry (or anyone) hasn't made it clear specifically why winning over places like France is so important.

[That being said, I am not so hard on Germany in this thing since I think they are fairly good allies who will come around before the situation reaches a critical point.]

Didn't they fight well in WWI?

Against Austrian-Hungarian junior varsity forces they did just fine, in perhaps the worst terrain of WWI.

Got their head handed to them when they encoutered the German varsity at Caporetto.

My husband and I just arrived back from Italy lastnight. We had a wonderful time. The people are so friendly and go out of their way to help you. No animosity for Americans there.
In Sienna though, we sat at a table next to some east coast American guy sporting his Ralph Lauren button down shirt with a huge "Kerry/Edwards" pin attached to his lapelle. "I mean, leave it at home man, you are in Italy for goodness sakes on vacation!"
