I campaigned for Ford, debated in mock elections against Carter. I didn't like Ford but I knew Carter was going to be a disaster.

I also campaigned for J. P. Hammerschmidt against Bill Clinton in a US Congressional race. Clinton lost big time.

Clinton lost to Hammerschmidt in 1974, not 1976. And it was a close election too. Clinton was elected AR attorney general on the day that Carter was elected President. Clinton then lost his governorship (temporarily) on the day Reagan was elected President.
