Germany: A Blogger Report on Real Americans

A report from a blogger, sitting in Germany.

My office co-worker came in, and told an fascinating story of her daughter today. The daughter, 16, is in an aggressive program with the American school system here in Germany (US Base). There was a program at a different site, which the US base provided school bus coverage (commerically run by Germans), to get these kids to it. The site is near the Landtuhl location where a lot of US troops are coming in...to be treated for severe wounds. The daughter and a couple of kids had returned to the bus, and the driver was going to leave (mostly empty bus), and a number of wounded US troops were near the bus stop, and asked about the schedule, and if this bus was going near the BX. They needed to shop, or just a chance to escape from the hospital for a few hours.

The driver, a German, could have simply said that he was contracted to move kids only, and would have been morally and ethically correct. No harm done. But he didn't say that...he went the route of saying direct German that they were baby-killers and he wouldn't let them on the bus. He went on...in German of course, to insult them a fair amount. None of the GIs really understood German, and he likely calculated that they wouldn't. But the 16 year old kid of my co-worker does speak German...she's a wiz at the language. She turned...and laid verbally into the driver....with the old standard "didn't you kill alot of jews?"...and she went on for a minute or two insulting the guy.

When he stammered back...in shock that anyone spoke German that well...she demanded he carry the troopers onto the BX (where they were headed anyway). By the time she was done....they were all on the bus and going on their merry way.

The principal apparently did catch wind of the affair...and apparently decided to issue a stern to the company providing the drivers. The driver didn't have to pick up a single GI...but the driver sure did need to insult anyone. And that was his mistake.

When my co-worker told me the story...I sat there and felt good for three simple reasons. A wrong was made right...which is always a good thing to see. Wounded GIs were taken care of and treated right in the end. And finally...American teenagers are not as bad as I once thought...for a punk kid to take on an adult, and insult them in a mature fashion...and fix a wrong...says alot of American kid.

I wanted to post this story...because people just don't see all of the good things being done for our guys...and maybe its time that we all provide a little bit of extra support for our guys who are wounded. Life is short...but it helps to have someone...even a punk kid...on your side.

Thank you very much for posting this excellent story. I read the first line of all vanities to see whether the article might be worthwhile. I'm glad I stopped and read yours with care.

Thanks, its great to see kids who not only know right from wrong, but are also willing to take a stand to wipe it out. Much different that the ones who pretend to know all that's wrong with the world and its always the USA.

What surprises me is that a German was not only so venemous, but willing to openly confront others with it.

Great story and great kid. Good for her, wish we had more stories like that here. Maybe we do and just don't hear about them, you know, the MSM thing (including most local newspapers)

Good for her. That was a real zinger.

I was stationed in K-town years ago and the German TV put on that mini series concerning the Holocaust. The entire country seemed to take a collective nutty when they were compelled to realize just how things are perceived by non Germans.

I found that many of the Germans I knew (some well actually) were quite upset about the issue and generally speaking many of them are in denial about the Holocaust.

Sieg Heil alert!

Stem cell research in the interests of weeding out the weak and furthering Aryan nation II.

Is the DNC the "fourth Reich"?

A good STFU was, indeed, in order. I wonder what this guy's father or grandfathers did about 60 years ago, or those of his neighbors.

Germany limits stem cell research, because of their past.

I had a German neighbor before. She is 100 yrs. old and still cannot come to terms with her guilt over the Hitler years. She still hates Jews, but I don't think she knows why. She still hates Americans, probably out of envy and has been a citizen here since about 1930. She's a screaming Liberal. Go figure.

Thanks for the report. The SD government have really, either out of omission or wilful manipulation allowed anti Americanism to flourish. Also, I have noticed that some of the now integrated East Germans never really got rid of their Communist taught anti American thinking. Combine these factors plus a completely unethical media, and there you have it. An expat friend working in Bavaria told me things were tense at times around the office. Strange times. I hope some day, the US and Germany are once again on the sorts of excellent terms we were on back during the 1960s.

Your daughter did a fine thing. She gave that busdriver a good dose of what the socialist Germans have been dishing out to the US for decades. The difference is that your daughter was in the right and the busdriver was in the wrong.

I would like to point out that there are still many Germans who are friends to America-- they remember praying for the Americans to save them from the Nazis. I would also like to point out that the Socialist coalition government has been sustaining many losses to the conservatives in recent elections. And the conservatives are pro American.

As you might guess from my surname, I have a German heritage -- but understand some of the problems of the breed.

My German dad was an EXCELLENT cook. He once combined one of his Chinese recipes with his outstanding sauerbraten. It was DELICIOUS -- but 2 hours after the meal, we were hungry for power.

I was in Germany for a week last year. There is anti-American grafiti around the train stations.

I was stationed there in the 70's. But I probably won't be going back, even though my company might want me to.

LOL! I remember them pointing, staring openly, and pushing and using the elbows when in line in a manner that would have provoked a fist fight if done among/by Americans.
Different cultural habits I guess, like sharing tables with complete strangers in a gasthaus and totally ignoring one another while sitting at the same table.
Fights with them were different too, if some one got knocked down Germans would wait till you got up to continue the festivities, Americans or English would be on you pounding you if you went down.
