Kerry plans a hunting trip as part of his push for votes of social conservatives

PITTSBURGH (AP) --

John Kerry planned to go hunting Thursday, showing he's a regular guy to voters who might harbor some doubts.

Kerry adviser Mike McCurry said it's important in the final days of the campaign that voters "get a better sense of John Kerry, the guy."

That means the Democratic senator plans to spend some of the dwindling time before Election Day shooting at geese, watching baseball and talking about his faith.

It's all part of an effort to win over swing voters who may be open to voting against President Bush but aren't sure they feel any connection with Kerry.

While the Democrat campaigns as an all-American, his political opponents are working to leave voters with a different impression. Bush tells voters that Kerry is on the "left bank" of society, opposing a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage.

"We stand for marriage and family, which are the foundations of our society," Bush said during a stop Wednesday in Mason City, Iowa. "We stand for the Second Amendment, which protects every individual American's right to bear arms."

As Kerry goes hunting near Youngstown, Ohio, Thursday morning, readers of the local newspaper will see a full-page ad bought by the National Rifle Association that says Kerry is posing as a sportsman while opposing gun-owners' rights.

shooting at geese,

Shooting at them is about right.

By the way, doesn't he lose at least one subhuman-hugger for every patriot he gains?

"The fact that Senator Kerry is a person of faith is something that might help voters who are undecided," McCurry said.

Yeah. Communism is a faith.

If the Repubs don't start blanketing the swing states with ads showing Kerry backing gay marriage and gun confiscation, they deserve to lose!

In a related development, Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) indicated she would also be involved in the same hunting trip. "I'll be armed and right behind Sen. Kerry," she said.

The second amendment is not about hunting--it's about defending ourselves, Mr. Kerry!

He should stick to courting the PETA vote. The NRA vote is already taken.

This latest pathetic attempt by Kerry shows how truly desperate his campaign is ... either that or the Clintonistas in his organization are deliberately urging him to look ultra stupid. After all, they don't want Hillary to wait eight years to run.

Hunting is fine. I support the right of hunters to hunt, but the Second Amendment is not about hunting.

Kerry never speaks of the rights of individuals to own handguns for self defense, which to me is a much more important protection afforded by the Second Amendment than hunting.

To the best of my knowledge, Kerry also hasn't stated what he thinks the Second Amendment does -- protect an individual or collective right -- becasue if its the latter then he is bascially saying its worthless. The anti-gun nuts got upset when Bush reversed the Clinton adm's policy of holding that the Second Amendment protects a collective right. Of course it is largely symbolic as the Sup Court could do whatever they want to do should they ever address this issue again, but its important to know where the President stands and what his advocates would be arguing in the courts.

" That means the Democratic senator plans to spend some of the dwindling time before Election Day shooting at geese, watching baseball and talking about his faith."

Kerry insulted the people of Ohio by lapsing into goober patois when he applied for his hunting license.
I guarantee that when Kerry strolls into his local Beacon Hill food emporium ( after pushing his way to the front of the line ),
he doesn't say to the clerk " Can I git me some Beluga, here ?"
Pretty soon, he'll insult fly over country even further by scratching his groin and belching , in an elitist attempt " to connect " with " those people."

I hope some one checks his hunting license...... and his duck stamp.

It would be rich for him to brought up on a violation of federal hunting law.
