Kerry wanted to ban the TV show COPS.
Federal News Service -- HEARING OF THE SENATE COMMERCE, SCIENCE AND TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE -- L/N
| OCTOBER 20, 1993
| John Kerry
Posted on 10/21/2004 2:11:32 PM PDT by TFine80
SEN. KERRY: Now, you know, here in Washington, if Jay Leno isn't working for you, you can switch quickly over to -- I think it's Channel 5 -- and pick up cops running around with people at night, you know, intruding into homes, arresting, people crying, all these kinds of things that seem to titillate. Why are our cops being allowed to do that? I mean, there is an amazing amount of cooperation in the making of that. Why, if it is not good, are they permitted to allow these people to follow them into the homes and everywhere else?
ATTY GEN. RENO: That's one of the first issues I addressed when I took office because I had made it a practice to avoid such situations like that in Miami and I've taken steps to try to make sure that the department complies with the thought that police should not be -- or at least agents of the department should not be involved in such efforts.
SEN. KERRY: I know you can't mandate it with respect to all local police, et cetera, but have you taken some kind of step with the Police Chiefs Association and others around the country?

I don't know why Kerry would be shocked-it would've looked like a typical weekend in the Kennedy compound.

COPS is my all-time favorite show. That Kerry is a meanie !
To: nascartex
One of my favorite shows... I went to college in Boston and from 2-4 am one of the local networks played 4 episodes of COPS in a row.
Kerry's a schmuck. Many Cops like this show so people understand what they are about and how they work. And to show that crime is a real problem.

Cops shouldn't be going into people's houses with cameras in tow. Camera showed up in my house at the very least there would be an expensive pile of junk on the floor.

Ya ever notice how every white dude they bust is missin his shirt? Yeah, and missing 2 front teeth, OR has a cigarette in his mouth, OR has a beer in one hand.

Funny email:
Bill, Hillary and Kerry are flying on Kerrys wifes private jet.
Bill Looks out the window, chuckles and says, You know, I could throw a $100.00 bill out the window right now and make
some poor slob very happy.
Hillary shrugs her shoulders and says, Well, I could throw ten $10.00 bills out the window and make 10 people very
happy.
Kerry says, Of course then, I could throw one-hundred $1.00 bills out the window and make a hundred people very happy.
The pilot rolls her eyes, looks at all of them and says to the co-pilot, Such big shots back there
I could throw all of them
out the window and make millions of people very happy.

Do they have to get your permission to show it on TV?

Or wearing a T-shirt, with a pack of cigarettes rolled in the sleeve, drunk out of his gourd and yelling at his wife not to mess with his stuff.</p>

I'm sure they do. But even more important, they should need your permission to come in with people who are not cops.
"Excuse me, sir? Yessir, we're going to break down your door in five minutes and we need your permission to let the cameraman come in with us..."

Do they have to get your permission to show it on TV? Now that I think about it, I'll bet it works like this: The cameras come in anyway and they shoot their film. Afterward, the white trash that gets busted is too stupid to know he could sue the show for trespassing and whatever else - so it never occurs to him. After the dude is booked and released the show contacts him to (a) get releases (for both use of the film and future litigation connected with the filming) and (b) give him a few hundred bucks to buy beer and wife-beater t-shirts.

Same here. The stupidity of criminals never ceases to amaze me.
My favorite is the guy who swore up and down that he doesn't smoke marijuana till the cop pointed out that he had a joint behind his ear.
