I have had to place some of my children in the local government schools. I am keeping the school on a fairly short leash and spend more than the usual amount of time talking to school employees.
Every school employee except for the busdriver has, each time we have spoken togher, has put in a POINTED slam of the No Child Left Behind program. All of them. All the time. One employee told me that I had to provide a reason and a note when the child is missing for a day...becasue No Child Left Behind requires it. Althoug friends in other districts deny thier schools requiring any such thing. And I certainly know that this is a FEDERAL mandate since the speakers all refer to this issue.
Is this a NEA or state union push. It is very effective for on a one to one basis with all parents during the teacher meetings this year, which are mostly held before the elections, parents are being told that the present administration is screwing up their child.
Any other government school parents experiencing this???
Don't they know they don't have real jobs? Their opinions don't count...ask Teraaaaayza.
I trust my school district about as far as I can throw them collectively.

Neither do I. Has anyone seen this sort of behavior though. Perhaps I am overreacting. The teachers seem to stop and guage my reaction as they talk aboaut No Child Left Behind. I wonder what would happen if I played dumb??

I thought that was standard policy? When I was a kid and I missed a day of school I had to bring a note the next day.
Not personally. But I have heard from a friend who has a couple of teachers in his family that they despise NCLB. The real reason is the NEA wants to control everything. The NEA does not want its job performance to be held accountable. The results seem to be that NCLB is getting results.
I do not believe that its appropriate for the NEA to use the classroom and parent meetings to make political statements about standards with which that they are required by law to comply. If they can't do the job, they should get out of the way.
As a former public school teacher, a lot of teachers just parrot what they are told by the local NEA rep. It is baloney, NCLB has brought A BUNCH MORE funding into the schools for a variety of items and programs.
Also as a former public school teacher, I will be homeschooling my daughter...
Not when the parent is standing in the office telling the principal and secretary that the parent needs to take the child, or that the child is ill. They were all apologetic about it...
Schools have ALWAYS required a note when the kid is absent. When I went to school this was required. This was required before Bush was out of college.
The real reason they hate NCLB is because it requires testing and you can't access the NCLB dough until you test and show where your school is. Schools that are crap have refused the money - refused the testing - refused everything....all the while saying that NCLB is an underfunded mandate.
In other words, they're full of Kerry.
Simply ask them if they can please check their partisan politics at the door. It will put them on notice. Then write a letter to the editor of you local paper discussing the issue. Attend and bring it up at a PTA meeting. If you want to sink that boat you have to start making waves.
Results always scare liberals, they love promises and plans.

I'm a teacher....from what I see and hear your correct...all they do is whine and lie about NCLB.....but....in my experience and opinion....NCLB is the BEST thing to happen in education...in the 17 years I have been at it..
What do you find great about it?
A school teacher in my church complained about the paperwork created by this program "by Bush", so someone said, "Well, complain to Ted Kennedy because that is how Bush let write the bill and Kennedy wanted to create more government workers and could care less about the children."

Next time they say anything, tell them that (their hero) Teddy Kennedy did a wonderful job cowriting the NCLBA, didn't he?
