Both my husband and I went to PSU. I was there only for grad school, but he loved it so much he did everything there! We were just there a few weeks ago to show our daughter around and so husband could recruit for his company.

Here's our little lion...

. . provide a reason and a note when the child is missing for a day... becasue No Child Left Behind requires it." Are we not supposed to be held accountable for the children in our charge?

When I walk into a school and tell them that my daughter had appointments or that I need to remove her from school an hour early...I dont expect to be told that I have to write a note asking permission or telling them additonal details. I am her mother. I use my best mother judgement. I am accountable to God...for my daughter's well being, not some government school.

It causes teaching to the lowest common denominator... Inclusion really kills a classroom. Separating by skill level instead of age would do wonders..

i fully understand. special ed students aside, our school district has cut back on advanced classes for smarter children so they can spend money and effort on the children with lesser intelligence.

By joining your local PTA, you are automatically sending $2.00 to the National PTA which supports all the same things as the NEA.

I did not say join. I said attend. There is a difference.

The NEA objects big time to No Child Left Behind.

I've met a number of teachers, gotten to speak politics with just a few. For the most part I find them conservative in their views, but when it comes to actually thinking they should be ....shall I actually say it..... EVALUATED for their performance they get a tiny bit indignant.

tiny, huh?

Don't know about government schools, but I work as a substitute teacher (elementary public schools) and when I've done lunch in the teachers' lounge, that all I hear are complaints amongst themselves about what a burden it is to have to abide by the guidelines and testing. I thnik even their in district and outside teacher publications are negative towards the program too.

I've only interacted with one teacher on the issue. It's seems to me she didn't like it because it was creating more work for her.

In our schools they separate by skill level. All the "Leadership" Children go into the multiage and the rest of the children are divided among the mainstreaming problems.

I'm having trouble with one of my 2nd graders teachers. She's older, and not flexible.

My daughter is one of the best students in the class. She has one of the highest reading levels (way over 2nd grade), is on one of the highest level math tests, and has made the best scores on spelling tests this year.

My daughter is also a slow writer, and the teacher is making my daughter miss recess because she hasn't completed her work. This is what she also does to kids that don't do their homework. My daughter is upset because she is being punished.

I've asked the teacher to send home unfinished work and let my daughter go to recess, and the teacher has a problem with this.

My daughter has been in tears over this several times a week, since school started.

The school has to push the students with less capabilities because these programs insist that NO CHILD be left behind. Since the bright students will not have any problem being mediocre, the school had better spend their time and money on the lower kids.

If you don't mind me asking, why did you have to send them to public school?

An elementary public school is a government school....

Consider this extra bang for your buck. The teacher is giving up her own potty-break for your child.
